Explosive Plasma Instabilities
Physical Review Letters, 1969The interaction of three monochromatic waves (two positive energy longitudinal waves and one negative energy wave) is investigated. When only the first-order nonlinear interactions are considered, an explosive instability occurs. However, this instability is stabilized by the higher order nonlinear interactions.

Instability of the cometary plasma tail — the instability in a plasma sheet
Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2011We consider the instability of the cometary plasma tail which is composed of a neutral sheet, two lobes of the ion tail and solar wind. The plasma is assumed to be highly conductive and incompressible. The unstable state yields a magnetic field which is perpendicular to the tail axis.

Waves and Instabilities in a Finite Plasma
The Physics of Fluids, 1969A dispersion relation is derived for electrostatic waves in a plasma confined between planes which perfectly reflect the particles but have no effect on the fields. A uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the planes is assumed. Both classical and quantum-mechanical derivations are given. In the quantum-mechanical derivation some terms appear which do

Plasma Electromagnetic Instabilities
The Physics of Fluids, 1963A gyrotropic plasma with T∥/T⊥ ≡ γ < 1, where T⊥ and T∥ are the transverse and longitudinal temperatures, is shown to be unstable to a perturbation in the form of a transverse wave with a wave vector k such that k2 < k02 = {ωc2(1−γ)2 + ωp2(1−γ)/γ}/c2, ωc and ωp are the gyro and plasma frequencies.

Modulated instability in collisional plasmas
Physical Review E, 1993We describe the modulational instability development in a collisional plasma where the characteristic frequency Δω of the modulated perturbations is much less than v eff (eq) , the inverse equalization time of the electron and ion ...

Anisotropic Temperature Plasma Instabilities
The Physics of Fluids, 1968An anisotropic plasma exhibits a transverse instability due to the mutual attraction of the microscopic current elements. A detailed study is made of this instability in an electron-ion plasma without any external magnetic field. The system is characterized by a temperature tensor and described by a quasi-Maxwellian distribution function.
