Fusion reactor with electrodynamic stabilization

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
Magnetic confinement of thermonuclear plasma can be significantly improved by using the reaction of an electrical conductive wall in combination with the AC driving of the plasma current.

Unraveling 4‐Phenylbutyrate's Therapeutic Role in SLC6A1 Disorders: Pharmacochaperoning Over HDAC Inhibition

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Variants in SLC6A1, encoding the GABA transporter 1 (GAT‐1), cause epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder, and developmental delay via loss of GABA uptake, impaired trafficking, and ER retention. We previously found that 4‐Phenylbutyrate (PBA), an FDA‐approved drug, restores GABA uptake and reduces seizures in SLC6A1‐related disorders ...

Adding a Vorticity Source to the Hasegawa-Wakatani Equations

open access: yesEdinburgh Student Journal of Science
Instabilities in fusion reactor plasma are an area of ongoing research as they represent the primary hurdle in producing an ongoing fusion reaction for fusion energy production.

Parametric study of Alfvénic instabilities driven by runaway electrons during the current quench in DIII-D

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
To avoid or mitigate runaway electron (RE) beams in ITER, RE-driven instabilities are actively studied as a complimentary technique to massive material injection.

Coordinated optical and radar observations of ionospheric pumping for a frequency pass through the second electron gyroharmonic at HAARP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
On 4 February 2005, the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) facility was operated in O and X mode while pointing into the magnetic zenith to produce artificial optical emissions in the ionospheric F layer. The pump frequency was set to

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Analysis of high-field side plasma instabilities in tokamak edge

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
Balanced double-null configurations are of general interest for boundary plasma physics, and they have been proposed for some future designs. Experimental observations demonstrate absence of plasma fluctuations in tokamak high-field side scrape-off layer

Theory and Simulation of Broadband Electrostatic Noise in the Magnetotail [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1994
Various plasma instabilities driven by the ion beams have been proposed in order to explain the broadband electrostatic noise (BEN) in the earth's geomagnetic tail. Ion acoustic, ion-ion two stream, and electron acoustic instabilities have been proposed.

Formation of convective cells, anomalous diffusion and strong plasma turbulence due to drift instabilities

open access: yes, 1977
Large scale, fully three-dimensional particle simulations have been carried out for the collisionless drift instabilities in a cylindrical geometry. It is found that nonlinear excitation of convective cells (omega = 0, k/sub parallel bars/ = 0) due to ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.
