Surface Modification of Ferritic Stainless Steel by Active Screen Plasma Nitriding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Plasma nitriding is a surface modification process with a low environmental impact. Active screen plasma nitriding (ASPN) is one of the new plasma nitriding technologies, and can eliminate problems related to conventional direct current plasma nitriding (

In Situ Amine Formation to Modulate MOF‐Derived PdIn N‐Doped Carbon Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An amine‐assisted approach converts PdIn‐MOF into PdIn intermetallic nanoparticles embedded in N‐doped carbon. In situ‐generated amines trigger early Pd nucleation, producing smaller PdIn domains than direct pyrolysis. Amine sterics and basicity tune composition and particle size, while solvent and amine co‐determine textural features.

Improvement of mechanical properties and fatigue life of stainless steel 316L in 0,9 % NaCl environment by applying shot peening and plasma nitriding treatments

open access: yesMetalurgija
Among metallic biomaterials, AISI 316L has the cheapest price yet but the lowest mechanical properties and it is prone to corrosion. Bone plate failure is often triggered by dynamics load, crevice or pitting corrosion, or a combination of fatigue and ...

Application of modern surface analytical tools in the investigation of surface deterioration processes [PDF]

open access: yes
Surface profilometry and scanning electron microscopy were utilized to study changes in the surface of polymers when eroded. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and depth profile analysis indicate the corrosion of metal and ceramic surfaces and ...

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...
