Lyophilized Synthetic Platelets: In Vitro Characterization and in Vivo Evaluation in Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

Study of the Current Sheath Velocity in a 2.2 kJ Plasma Focus Device [PDF]

open access: yesمجله علوم و فنون هسته‌ای, 2018
In this article, after a brief introduction of MTPF-1 plasma focus device, some of the related  experimental data are presented. These data show that it is possible to select the proper gas pressure and discharge voltage in order to have a specified ...

Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Amyloidosis: A story of how inframammary erosions eclipsed inconspicuous periorbital ecchymoses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Women's Dermatology, 2016
Systemic amyloidosis is a rare disease that can be rapidly progressive due to widespread organ involvement. There are well-described renal, cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and dermatologic findings.

Quantifying Strain and Its Effect on Charge Transport in Ge/Si Core/Shell Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates strain engineering in Ge/Si core–shell nanowires (CS NWs) by tuning the Ge core‐Si shell dimensions. Polarization‐resolved µ‐Raman and geometrical phase analysis quantify the resulting strain. Electronic transport measurements demonstrate record hole mobilities up to 25 400 cm2/Vs, highlighting these Ge/Si CS NWs as a promising ...

Characterization of the Plasma Generated by a Compact Theta Pinch

open access: yesPlasma
Theta Pinch is one of the promising methods for the generation of hot and dense plasma. In this paper, we describe the results of experimental research on a small-scale Theta Pinch created with Helium or Hydrogen plasmas.

Sheared Flow As A Stabilizing Mechanism In Astrophysical Jets

open access: yes, 2008
It has been hypothesized that the sustained narrowness observed in the asymptotic cylindrical region of bipolar outflows from Young Stellar Objects (YSO) indicates that these jets are magnetically collimated.

Nanocurvature‐Activated Dipolar Polarization in M–N4 Single‐Atom Sites for High‐Performance Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Increasing nanocurvature effectively enriches the local electron density of the M–N4 motif, which facilitates electron transfer from the metal center to nitrogen atoms. This electronic behavior intensifies the localization and asymmetric distribution of charge, thereby significantly amplifying the dipole moment and polarizability.

A study of the methods for the production and confinement of high energy plasmas [PDF]

open access: yes
The injection of dense plasmas into a B sub z long magnetic field from both ends of the field coil was investigated. Deflagration plasma guns and continuous flow Z-pinch are discussed along with the possibility of a continuous flow Z-pinch fusion reactor.

Giant Conductivity Modulation and Chemical Neuromodulation via Proton‐Electron Coupling in a Hydrogen‐Bonded Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A “de‐doping” strategy positions mixed protonic–electronic conductors (MPECs) as adaptive neuromorphic platforms with dynamically tunable transport. Co‐BAND achieves giant conductivity modulation (>106) and chemically tunable synaptic plasticity. Analogous to biological neuromodulation, solvent vapors dynamically reprogram the device's learning rules ...
