Deposition mechanisms of yttria-stabilized zirconia coatings during plasma spray physical vapor deposition

Ceramics International, 2016
Abstract As a new processing technology, plasma spray physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD) offers the possibilities to deposit coatings with microstructures varied in a wide range, including fully dense structure, columnar structure and hybrid structure.

A novel method for in-situ synthesized TiN coatings by plasma spray-physical vapor deposition

Materials Letters, 2018
Abstract As a novel process, the plasma spray-physical vapor deposition technology was used to in-situ synthesize the TiN coatings on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Due to its high power input and very low pressure, relatively pure TiN coatings with hybrid structures were successfully obtained at different spraying distances, which was not previously achieved ...

Monte Carlo simulation of column growth in plasma spray physical vapor deposition process

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2018
Abstract Plasma spray-physical vapor deposition is used to produce columnar microstructure coatings under particular operating parameters. Simulations of the growth of columns were carried out through a two-dimensional Monte Carlo model. The modeling was performed using inclined vapor flux impinging onto a substrate due to shadowing effects.

Gas-deposition mechanisms of 7YSZ coating based on plasma spray-physical vapor deposition

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2016
Abstract Variable microstructures of ZrO2-7 wt.% Y2O3 (7YSZ) coating can be achieved by plasma spray-physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD). Based on gas-phase prepared 7YSZ coating, the deposition mechanisms and their dependency on process conditions were investigated.

Plasma flow optimization for 7YSZ quasi-columnar coating by plasma spray-physical vapor deposition

2018 15th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST), 2018
Plasma spray-physical vapor deposition is an emerging coating technique, developed to produce vapor deposited thermal barrier coatings with large area coverage. The degree of feedstock evaporation and resulting coating microstructures are dependent upon plasma spray process parameters like plasma flow, torch power, plasma gas composition, carrier gas ...

Dense YSZ Coatings Fabricated by Plasma Spray-Physical Vapor Deposition

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2016
Abstract In the present work, YSZ coatings were deposited on graphite substrates by plasma spray-physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD) in order to study the influence of spray distance on microstructure and durability. Four coating samples were examined in detail via SEM and XRD analysis. The results show that the as-sprayed YSZ has a dense

Regional characteristic of 7YSZ coatings prepared by plasma spray-physical vapor deposition technique

Rare Metals, 2018
Abstract 7YSZ coating was prepared by plasma spray‐physical vapor deposition (PS‐PVD) technique based on a specific experimental design. The microstructure and deposition properties of 7YSZ coating along the radius of plasma jet were investigated in detail.

Variation of Vaporized Coating Material in Free Plasma Jet of Plasma Spray-Physical Vapor Deposition Process

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2018
Abstract In the Plasma Spray-Physical Vapor Deposition (PS-PVD) process, the vapor atom of feedstock material is one deposition unit of the columnar structure coating. It is reported that the gas phase may be transformed into cluster when the powder feeding rate increases from small to large or the sedimentation distance increases from a

Microstructures of Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Coatings by Plasma Spray-Physical Vapor Deposition

Journal of Thermal Spray Technology, 2014
As a novel processing technology, plasma spray-physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD) has exhibited potential capability to shape the sprayed coating microstructures. In this paper, yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coatings were produced at spray distances in the range of 450-1400 mm by PS-PVD.
