On the spectrum of mid-latitude sporadic-E irregularities [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2000
We discuss the creation of mid-latitude sporadic-E plasma irregularities (with length-scales smaller than sporadic layer thickness) by the neutral atmosphere turbulence.

The Impact of Turbulence on the Ionosphere and Magnetosphere

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2021
An important property associated with turbulence in plasmas and fluids is anomalous transport. Plasma, being a good conductor, can in addition be affected by turbulence causing an anomalous resistivity that can significantly exceed its classical ...

Energy dynamics in linear MHD with ion parallel viscosity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Analytic results for the time dependences of the kinetic and magnetic energies of an incompressible magneto fluid threaded by a strong uniform magnetic field B₀ are obtained.

Plasma and Magnetic Field Turbulence in the Earth’s Magnetosheath at Ion Scales

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2021
Crossing the Earth’s bow shock is known to crucially affect solar wind plasma including changes in turbulent cascade. The present review summarizes results of more than 15 years of experimental exploration into magnetosheath turbulence.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Dependence of Kinetic Plasma Turbulence on Plasma β [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2018
Abstract We study the effects of plasma β (the ratio of plasma pressure to magnetic pressure) on the evolution of kinetic plasma turbulence using fully kinetic particle-in-cell simulations of decaying turbulence. We find that the plasma β systematically affects spectra, measures of intermittency, decay rates of turbulence fluctuations ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Quantifying scaling in the velocity field of the anisotropic turbulent solar wind [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Solar wind turbulence is dominated by Alfvénic fluctuations with power spectral exponents that somewhat surprisingly evolve toward the Kolmogorov value of −5/3, that of hydrodynamic turbulence.

Impact of Micro-Scale Stochastic Zonal Flows on the Macro-Scale Visco-Resistive Magnetohydrodynamic Modes

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
A model is developed to simulate micro-scale turbulence driven Zonal Flows (ZFs), and their impact on the Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) tearing and kink modes is examined.

Effect of Turbulence Spreading on Subcritical Turbulence in Inhomogeneous Plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2005
Summary: The influence of the turbulence spreading is studied on the self-sustained turbulence which is induced by the subcritical instability. It is found that there is a minimum system size that can sustain the self-sustained turbulence, and an analytic formula is derived. The generalization of the Maxwell's construction rule is also derived.
