Effect of Turbulence Spreading on Subcritical Turbulence in Inhomogeneous Plasmas [PDF]
Summary: The influence of the turbulence spreading is studied on the self-sustained turbulence which is induced by the subcritical instability. It is found that there is a minimum system size that can sustain the self-sustained turbulence, and an analytic formula is derived. The generalization of the Maxwell's construction rule is also derived.

Emergence of shield immunity during spatial contagions [PDF]
Contagions spreading across space—including epidemics, infodemics, and socio-economic turbulence — generate complex geo-spatial patterns shaped by contagion state and risk-driven population mobility.

Radial spreading of turbulent bubble plumes [PDF]
Weak bubble plumes carry liquid from the environment upwards and release it at multiple intermediate levels in the form of radial intrusive currents. In this study, laboratory experiments are performed to explore the spreading of turbulent axisymmetric bubble plumes in a liquid with linear density stratification.

This paper uses data from limited HL-2A Ohmic-plasma to answer the question of how turbulent transport broadens the heat flux width. A key issue in this study is the determination of the origin of scrape-off layer (SOL) turbulence. We develop the concept

Mechanisms of Lateral Spreading in a Near-Field Buoyant River Plume Entering a Fjord
Observations collected from a fast-flowing buoyant river plume entering the head of Doubtful Sound, New Zealand, were analysed to examine the drivers of plume lateral spreading.

Both the long-term beam spreading caused by ocean turbulence and the pointing errors induced by the jitter of transmitters and receivers degrade the performance of underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) links.

How fluctuation intensity flux drives SOL expansion
Predictions of heat load widths ${\lambda _q}$ based on particle orbits alone are very pessimistic. This paper shows that pedestal peeling-ballooning (P-B) magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence broadens the stable scrape-off layer (SOL) by the transport ...

Upward Turbulent Flame Spread [PDF]
Mechanisms and rates of upward spread of turbulent flames along thermally thick vertical sheets are considered for both noncharring and charring fuels. By addressing the time dependence of the rate of mass loss of the burning face of a charring fuel, a linear integral equation of the Volterra type is derived for the spread rate.

Electromagnetic drift wave instability in tokamak plasmas with strong pedestal gradient
The linear eigenmode characterizations and the nonlinear turbulence energy spreading of the drift waves in a tokamak plasma with strong pedestal gradient are numerically investigated based on an electromagnetic Landau fluid model. By the linear eigenmode

Les effets optiques de la turbulence atmosphérique dans les images astronomiques
The often blurry appearance of astronomical images at a telescope focus is attributed to atmospheric agitation. The study of the light propagation through the turbulent Earth atmosphere has made it possible to understand the existence of optical ...
