Intra-individual variability in ancient plasmodium DNA recovery highlights need for enhanced sampling

open access: yesScientific Reports
Malaria has been a leading cause of death in human populations for centuries and remains a major public health challenge in African countries, especially affecting children. Among the five Plasmodium species infecting humans, Plasmodium falciparum is the

Photodynamic therapy of cancer‐associated infections

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Pathogens can be involved in tumor initiation, promotion and progression through different mechanisms, and their treatment can prevent new cancer cases, improve outcomes, and revert poor‐prognostic phenotypes. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) successfully treats different types of cancers and infections, and, therefore, has a unique potential to address ...

Generating Focussed Molecule Libraries for Drug Discovery with Recurrent Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In de novo drug design, computational strategies are used to generate novel molecules with good affinity to the desired biological target. In this work, we show that recurrent neural networks can be trained as generative models for molecular structures, similar to statistical language models in natural language processing.

Insecticide‐treated nets distribution campaign: Physical integrity, usage and sustainable disposal of end‐of‐life insecticide‐treated nets under operational settings in Odisha, India

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Prior to 2017, Odisha accounted for 50% of all Plasmodium falciparum cases in India. The ‘National Strategic Plan’ for malaria elimination had distributed 11.3 million insecticidal treated nets (ITNs) to 23 million individuals in Odisha's 17 malaria‐endemic districts by 2017.

Sequence analysis of genes associated with resistance to chloroquine and sulphadoxine pyrimethamine in P. falciparum and P. vivax isolates from the Bannu district of Pakistan

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2013
Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium falciparum are becoming resistant to drugs including antifolates, sulphonamides and chloroquine. This study was focused at sequence analysis of resistant genes of these parasites against sulphadoxine–pyrimethamine and ...

Analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry: An update for 2021–2022

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 213-453, May/June 2025.
Abstract The use of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry for the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates is a well‐established technique and this review is the 12th update of the original article published in 1999 and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2022.

A Geostatistical Framework for Combining Spatially Referenced Disease Prevalence Data from Multiple Diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Multiple diagnostic tests are often used due to limited resources or because they provide complementary information on the epidemiology of a disease under investigation. Existing statistical methods to combine prevalence data from multiple diagnostics ignore the potential over-dispersion induced by the spatial correlations in the data.
