A limit on behavioral plasticity in speech perception [PDF]

open access: yesCognition, 1997
It is well attested that we perceive speech through the filter of our native language: a classic example is that of Japanese listeners who cannot discriminate between the American /l/ and /r/ and identify both as their own /r/ phoneme (Goto. H., 1971. Neuropsychologia 9, 317-323.).

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

The Unified Strength Theory for Plastic Limit Load Analysis of Vertical Shaft Lining

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Plastic limit analysis is a significant application for structural design and failure prediction, implying that the potential bearing capacity of material can be fully considered.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Plastic load evaluation for a fixed tube sheet heat exchanger subject to proportional loading

open access: yes, 2012
The plastic load of pressurised components can be calculated based on both the twice elastic slope and tangent methods. Both methods are problematic since they rely on parameters that are localised and therefore have a strong dependency on the gradient ...

Limit load based evaluation of plastic ? factor for C(T) specimen with a mismatched weld

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2019
Plastic ? factor is adopted to account for crack tip plasticity while evaluating the fracture toughness of the materials as per ASTM E1820. It is valid only for homogeneous materials. The plastic ?

Stability Analysis of Roadway in Weakly Consolidated Formation Based on Clay Mineral Content

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2020
Taking Wujianfang west No.1 mine in Inner Mongolia as the engineering background, XRD mineral diffraction analysis, combined determination of liquid-plastic limit and laboratory mechanical test were carried out on three groups of weakly consolidated soft

Effect of NaCl and CaCl2 solutions on the liquid limit, plastic limit, and plasticity index of clay [PDF]

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
This study aims to investigate the effect of NaCl and CaCl2 solutions on the liquid limit, plastic limit, and plasticity index of soil samples. The liquid and plastic limits of soil samples were obtained using Casagrande's method and the fall cone penetrometer test.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
