Proceedings of the International Conference and Workshop on Emerging Trends in Technology, 2010
This paper deals with the analysis of the current POF market trends and its estimated growth in the vital sectors in the years to come. Plastic optical fibers have now come into the limelight since they have become an apparent middle ground between copper and glass optical fibers.

Plastic optical fiber star coupler
Applied Optics, 1986A new plastic optical fiber star coupler and the means of fabricating it have been developed. This coupler has been realized by twisting and pulling the waist region of a biconical tapered fiber bundle made by pretapered fibers while heating. Controlling the biconical tapered shape has been achieved by jetting gas on the fiber surface while heating the

Bidirectional optical coupler for plastic optical fibers
Applied Optics, 2005We have developed a low-loss bidirectional optical coupler for high-speed optical communication with plastic optical fibers (POFs). The coupler, which is fabricated by an injection molding method that uses poly (methyl methacrylate), has an antisymmetric tapered shape. We show that the coupler has low insertion and branching losses.

Plastic optical fiber technology
SPIE Proceedings, 2000We discuss plastic optical fiber technology in the context of its relationship to glass optical fiber technology. POF technology serves as a low cost way to investigate innovative optical fiber material structures. POFs offer some application advantages, especially in low cost broad bandwidth easily interconnected local area networks.
