Modelling of Dynamic Behaviour of Orthotropic Metals Including Damage and Failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A physically based material model for metals, with elastic plastic and damage/failure orthotropy is proposed in this paper. The model is defined within the frameworks of irreversible thermodynamics and configurational continuum mechanics and integrated ...

Finite Element Modeling of Acoustic Nonlinearity Derived from Plastic Deformation of 35CrMoA Steel

open access: yesMetals
Acoustic nonlinearity derived from microstructural evolution of metallic materials during plastic deformation has been found to be a promising nondestructive technique to identify early stage plastic damage in metallic structural components.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Study on accumulative plastic deformation of cement-fly ash improved subgrade coarse-grained soil under heavy-haul traffic loads and relative prediction based on PSO-ANN

open access: yesScientific Reports
In order to study the accumulative plastic deformation characteristics of coarse-grained subgrade soil improved by cement-fly ash under heavy-haul traffic loads, and propose the corresponding prediction model, a series of dynamic performance tests were ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Modelling of multiple impacts for the prediction of distortions and residual stresses induced by ultrasonic shot peening (USP) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
During a manufacturing process, the ultrasonic shot peening (USP) technique can be used as the final surface treatment. The aim of this operation is to introduce surface compressive residual stresses in order to prevent crack propagation advancement ...

Strain localization in amorphous films deposited on rough substrates

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
In this study, calculations are carried out for the plastic deformation of amorphous metallic glass films resting on rough substrates. It is found that plastic strain localization in the amorphous film is controlled by the synergistic interplay between ...
