Discerning protein pools by selective staining with self‐labeling tags

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cell surface proteins have an intra‐ and extracellular pool. Combining genetic fusion to self‐labeling tags that can be addressed with small molecule fluorophores allows separating these pools. We highlight recent developments and techniques for state‐of‐the‐art interrogation of cell surface proteins in the complex tissue setting.

A non-local plasticity theory for slow granular flows

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Motivated by experimental observations of apparent non-locality in the mechanical response of granular materials, a few recent studies have proposed non-local rheological models.

A theory of rate coding control by intrinsic plasticity effects. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2012
Intrinsic plasticity (IP) is a ubiquitous activity-dependent process regulating neuronal excitability and a cellular correlate of behavioral learning and neuronal homeostasis. Because IP is induced rapidly and maintained long-term, it likely represents a

Three-Shear Theory of Plasticity

open access: yesTransactions of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1958
Hysteresis loops and anisotropy due to plastic deformations were studied, and the conclusions are as follows : 1. Plastic deformation is to be devided into shears in three directions, and each shear must be considered individually. 2. Individual resistances in three directions, R1, R2, R3, are equal in magnitude, or [number formula] 3. The stress range

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Zinc in the Monoaminergic Theory of Depression: Its Relationship to Neural Plasticity

open access: yesJournal of Neural Transplantation and Plasticity, 2017
Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated that zinc possesses antidepressant properties and that it may augment the therapy with conventional, that is, monoamine-based, antidepressants.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Hyperbolic theories and problems of continuum mechanics

open access: yesVestnik Samarskogo Gosudarstvennogo Tehničeskogo Universiteta. Seriâ: Fiziko-Matematičeskie Nauki, 2015
Theories and problems of that part of continuum thermomechanics which can not be properly formulated without partial differential equations of hyperbolic analytical type are considered.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

c-Fos and neuronal plasticity: the aftermath of Kaczmarek's theory.

open access: yesActa Neurobiologiae Experimentalis, 2018
The development of molecular biology methods in the early 1980s led to a better understanding of the role of transcription factors in mammalian cells.
