Incorporating Water Harvesting into Plasticulture Production of Muskmelon [PDF]

open access: yesHortTechnology, 1999
Competition for limited water supplies is increasing world wide. Especially hard hit are the irrigated crop production regions, such as the Lower Rio Grande Valley and the Winter Garden areas of south Texas. To develop production techniques for reducing supplemental water needs of vegetable crops, an ancient water harvesting ...

Strawberry Crown Plugs Provide Flexibility and Improved Performance in Cold Climate Plasticulture Production

open access: yes, 2021
Annual plasticulture strawberry production has not been adopted as rapidly in cold climate regions as has occurred in warmer production areas due to uncertainty about potential benefits. Recent trials have demonstrated the potential of regionally adapted

Stand Establishment in Plasticulture Systems [PDF]

open access: yesHortTechnology, 1996
Plasticulture enables growers to optimize establishment of vegetable and fruit crops under nonoptimum conditions and in locations with short growing seasons. Generally, warm-season crops such as muskmelon, pepper, and tomato, are established from transplants to decrease the time to maturity in the field.

Strawberry Growth and Development in an Annual Plasticulture System [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 2001
The growth and development of three strawberry cultivars commonly grown in a plasticulture system were documented. Strawberry plants were harvested monthly and divided by roots, crown, leaves, flowers, and fruit and then dried in an oven. The dry matter production and resource allocation proceeded along a predictable pattern of development.
