Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Articulation and growth of skeletal elements in balanid barnacles (Balanidae, Balanomorpha, Cirripedia) [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2019
The morphology and ultrastructure of the shells of two balanid species have been examined, paying special attention to the three types of boundaries between plates: (i) radii-parietes, (ii) alae-sheaths, and (iii) parietes-basal plate.

Light propagation in a birefringent plates with topological charge

open access: yes, 2009
We calculated the Fresnel paraxial propagator in a birefringent plate having topological charge $q$ at its center, named "$q$-plate". We studied the change of the beam transverse profile when it traverses the plate.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Medical Expertise at Yekaterinburg Hospital: Legislation and Practice in 1720s–1750s

open access: yesНаучный диалог
This article examines the process of conducting medical expertise at the Yekaterinburg Hospital during the years 1720 to 1750. It highlights that medical examination was mandated by legislation in cases of early resignation from factory service due to ...

Fixture for environmental exposure of structural materials under compression load [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
A device for stressing a deformable material specimen consists of top plate and a bottom plate sandwiching a guide cylinder. The specimen is positioned on the bottom plate and attached to a load piston.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Dynamic stability of a floating plate and a support structure (Influence of elasticity of a support structure on occurrence conditions of the self-excited vibration)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
This paper presents experiments and an analysis of the self-excited vibration of a floating plate and a support structure. The system in which a floating plate and a support structure vibrate, the elasticity of the support structure influences the ...

Plate mouse [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma, 2013
Fracture shaft humerus when surgically fixed is known to go into non-union and one of the main reasons of this is implant failure. The causes of implant failure may lie in the fracture personality, faulty implant material or choice, dubious surgical technique & faulty mechanics of fixation.
