A \(C^1\) bending element for composite plates based on a high-order shear deformation theory

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2008
A new \(C^1\) rectangular element is proposed and the finite element formulation based on Reddy’s higher-order shear deformation plate theory is developed.

Plastic plate theory [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 1964
It is shown that the governing equations for perfectly plastic flow of plates are generally elliptic, the only exceptions being certain piecewise linear yield conditions and corners of the yield curve.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Effect of material composition on bending analysis of FG plates via a two-variable refined hyperbolic theory

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2018
The major novelty of the article is an application of a two-variable refined hyperbolic shear deformation theory based on studying the bending behavior of functionally graded material (FGM) plates with simply-supported edges.

The wall effect in cavity flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
A non-linear theory for the calculation of the flow field of an oblique flat plate under blockage condition is given using the techniques of integral equations.

Casimir experiments showing saturation effects

open access: yes, 2009
We address several different Casimir experiments where theory and experiment disagree. First out is the classical Casimir force measurement between two metal half spaces; here both in the form of the torsion pendulum experiment by Lamoreaux and in the ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Radiation Impedance of Rectangular CMUTs

open access: yesSensors
Recently, capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers (CMUTs) with long rectangular membranes have demonstrated performance advantages over conventional piezoelectric transducers; however, modeling these CMUT geometries has been limited to ...

Bending analysis of P-FGM plates resting on nonuniform elastic foundations and subjected to thermo-mechanical loading

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2022
In a thermal environment, using the formulations of the refined shear deformation theory, the flexion of the functionally graduated rectangular plates (P-FGM) based on nonuniform elastic foundations is presented.

On a theory of sandwich construction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1948
The theory of sandwich construction developed in this paper proceeds from the simple assumption that the filling has only transverse direct and shear stiffnesses, corresponding to its functional requirements (§1). This supposition permits integration
