A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...

Different PDGF Receptor Dimers Drive Distinct Migration Modes of the Mouse Skin Fibroblast

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2018
Background/Aims: The migration of mesenchymal cells is a fundamental cellular process that has been implicated in many pathophysiological conditions and is induced by chemoattractants such as platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs).

Functional Biomaterials Derived from Protein Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation and Liquid‐to‐Solid Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Protein can undergo liquid–liquid phase separation and liquid‐to‐solid transition to form liquid condensates and solid aggregates. These phase transitions can be influenced by post‐translational modifications, mutations, and various environmental factors.

Interaction of Oligonucleotides with Gold Nanoparticles: Factors Beyond Electrostatic and Van‐Der Waals Forces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The formation of stable clusters of gold nanoparticles with oligonucleotides at different solution conditions is explored. DNA base homogeneity and strand directionality influence the binding with gold nanoparticles leading to interesting clustering behavior that can be relevant for SERS applications.

Hypoxic Ventilatory Response in Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor-β–Knockout Mice

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2009
.: The present study investigated whether the platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR)-β–mediated mechanisms are involved in the hypoxic ventilatory response through modulating the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) function.

Optimal experimental design in an EGFR signaling and down-regulation model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We apply the methods of optimal experimental design to a differential equation model for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling, trafficking, and down-regulation. The model incorporates the role of a recently discovered protein complex made up of the E3 ubiquitin ligase, Cbl, the guanine exchange factor (GEF), Cool-1 (Beta-Pix), and the Rho ...
