Genetic determinants of on-aspirin platelet reactivity: focus on the influence of PEAR1.
BackgroundPlatelet aggregation during aspirin treatment displays considerable inter-individual variability. A genetic etiology likely exists, but it remains unclear to what extent genetic polymorphisms determine platelet aggregation in aspirin-treated ...

Receptors that Activate Platelets
This review highlights the increasing knowledge of the biochemistry, pathology, and cell and molecular biology of platelet receptors. A receptor for ADP has been identified using the affinity label FSBA as aggregin, a 100-kDa membrane protein responsible for shape change, aggregation, and exposure of fibrinogen binding sites.

The platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase of mouse platelets
Platelet-activating factor (PAF) acetylhydrolases are a family of distinct enzymes with the common property of hydrolyzing and inactivating PAF. It has been shown that the structure and the biochemical behavior of these enzymes depend on their cellular origin.

PurposePlatelets are essential for primary hemostasis; however, platelet activation also plays an important proinflammatory role. Inflammation promotes the development of cardiac fibrosis and heart failure induced by hypertension. In this study, we aimed

A platelet alpha-granule membrane protein (GMP-140) is expressed on the plasma membrane after activation. [PDF]
We have previously characterized a monoclonal antibody, S12, that binds only to activated platelets (McEver, R.P., and M.N. Martin, 1984, J. Biol. Chem., 259:9799-9804). It identifies a platelet membrane protein of Mr 140,000, which we have designated as

Mathematical modeling of thrombus formation in idealized models of aortic dissection: Initial findings and potential applications [PDF]
Aortic dissection is a major aortic catastrophe with a high morbidity and mortality risk caused by the formation of a tear in the aortic wall. The development of a second blood filled region defined as the “false lumen” causes highly disturbed flow ...

Inhibition by cardiolipins of platelet‐activating factor‐induced rabbit platelet activation
AbstractEvidence is presented that cardiolipin, a naturally occurring phospholipid, inhibits the aggregatory effect of platelet‐activating factor (paf) on rabbit plateletsin vitro. Bovine heart cardiolipin was shown to inhibit the aggregation of washed rabbit platelets induced by 1×10−10 M and 2×10−10 M paf with IC50 values (doses for half‐maximal ...

Background 3-Hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors (statins) have been widely used to reduce cardiovascular risk. These statins (i.e., simvastatin) may exert other effects besides from their cholesterol-lowering actions ...

Platelet signaling--blood's great balancing act [PDF]
The antagonistic balance between CalDAG-GEFI and RASA3 signaling is critical for the fine-tuning of platelet adhesiveness, both in the circulation and at sites of vascular ...
