Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

PI-220, a New Platelet Aggregation Inhibitor

PI-220 was found in a culture broth of Streptomyces sp. A8059, which had been isolated from a soil sample collected in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.PI-220 inhibited aggregation of rabbit platelets with an IC50 value of 1.0-2.1 × 10-3 M.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.
