Bacteriocidal Properties of Platelet Concentrates
Transfusion, 1974Platelet concentrates were contaminated with predetermined numbers of bacteria isolated from patients. Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudo‐monas aeruginosa organisms were killed if the number introduced was less than 103. when 104 through 106 organisms were added, their growth was depressed for 24 hours and then slowly resumed.

Pathogen inactivation of platelet concentrates
Vox Sanguinis, 2010Question 1 Has pathogen inactivation of PCs been implemented in your country ⁄ centre? If so, which technique is used? • If so, does this concern all PCs or only PCs for certain groups of patients? • How many inactivated PCs have been transfused and what was the experience with them so far? • Have you noticed any untoward reactions or effects that were,

Effects of high platelet concentration in collecting and freezing dry platelets concentrates
Transfusion and Apheresis Science, 2004To evaluate, in vitro, the effects of collecting and cryopreserving fresh dry platelet concentrates (PCs).Standard and dry PCs were collected in the same apheresis procedure. PCs were evaluated by mean platelet volume (MPV), pH, glucose and LDH levels.

Platelet serotonin concentration in alcoholic subjects
Life Sciences, 2004Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is assumed to play a role in the pathophysiology of different psychiatric disorders including alcoholism. Since platelets and central serotonergic synaptosomes share similar pharmacodynamics of 5-HT, this study determined platelet 5-HT concentration in 148 male and 42 female drug-free subjects with alcohol ...

Platelet factor 4 release from the platelets stored in platelet concentrates
Transfusion, 1985Many consider that granular components of platelets should remain intact during storage of platelet concentrates (PCs) in order to participate in hemostasis when infused. The present investigations were done to determine factors affecting the release of an alpha‐granular component, platelet factor 4 (PF‐4), from platelets stored as PCs.

Platelet concentration and platelet volume distribution in healthy cats
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1984SUMMARY An electronic particle counter and size analysis system were used to determine platelet count, mean platelet volume (mpv), platelet volume heterogeneity (sd of platelet volumes), and platelet mass values in feline platelet-rich plasma (prp) prepared by brief centrifugation of blood.

Viral inactivation in platelet concentrates
Transfusion Clinique et Biologique, 1994Although the current risk of posttransfusion infection is very low in North America and Western Europe, there continues to be considerable interest in measures to inactivate residual viruses in blood components. The human immunodeficiency virus is of greatest concern, but hepatitis C virus is also considered to be a significant problem.
