Platelet count measured prior to cancer development is a risk factor for future symptomatic venous thromboembolism: the Tromsø Study. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
BACKGROUND: Elevated platelet count is associated with risk of venous thromboembolism in cancer patients initiating chemotherapy. It is not known whether this risk by platelet count is causal or merely reflects the malignant disease.

Evolution of platelet functions in cirrhotic patients undergoing liver transplantation: A prospective exploration over a month. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
This prospective observational study was designed to analyze platelet functions across time in 50 patients scheduled for liver transplantation (LT) secondary to decompensated cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma.

Low Platelet Count Predicts Reduced Survival in Potentially Resectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesCurrent Oncology, 2022
The prognostic role of platelet count in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear, and in fact both thrombocytopenia and thrombocytosis are reported as predictors of unfavourable outcomes.

The Impact of Prepartum Platelet Count on Postpartum Blood Loss and Its Association with Coagulation Factor XIII Activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
BACKGROUND Postpartum hemorrhage is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Contradictory information exists regarding the relevance of prepartum platelet count on postpartum hemorrhage.

Improvement of platelet in thrombocytopenic HCV patients after treatment with direct-acting antiviral agents and its relation to outcome

open access: yesPlatelets, 2021
Little is known about evolution of platelet count after treatment with direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs). The study aimed to evaluate the changes in platelet count after treatment with DAAs among thrombocytopenic patients with HCV-related advanced ...

Normal and pathological dynamics of platelets in humans [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Biology volume 75, pages 1411-1462 (2017), 2016
We develop a comprehensive mathematical model of platelet, megakaryocyte, and thrombopoietin dynamics in humans. We show that there is a single stationary solution that can undergo a Hopf bifurcation, and use this information to investigate both normal and pathological platelet production, specifically cyclic thrombocytopenia.

Modification of Platelet Count on the Association between Homocysteine and Blood Pressure: A Moderation Analysis in Chinese Hypertensive Patients

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hypertension, 2020
Background. Platelet consumption followed by homocysteine-induced endothelial injury suggests a crosstalk between platelet activation and homocysteine on hypertension.

PLATELET COUNTS AND PLATELET FUNCTION [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1946
Abstract Determinations of the platelet count, clot retraction, bleeding time, capillary fragility, and coagulation time were made in 64 normal subjects and in 404 patients suffering from various diseases. The normal values for the platelet count done by an experienced technician using the Rees and Ecker method were: mean,

Pretreatment platelet count predicts survival outcome of patients with de novo non-M3 acute myeloid leukemia [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2017
Background Pretreatment platelet count has been reported as a potential tool to predict survival outcome in several solid tumors. However, the predictive value of pretreatment platelet count remains obscure in de novo acute myeloid leukemia (AML ...

Platelet counts and mean platelet volume amongst elderly Nigerians [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
determining reference values of Platelet Counts, Mean Platelet Volume and the relationship between the Platelet Count and Mean Platelet Volume. These parameters were determined from 400 healthy elderly subjects comprising 210 males and 190 females.
