Modeling of Polymer Clay Nanocomposite for a Multiscale Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The mechanical property enhancement of polymer reinforced with nano-thin clay platelets (of high aspect ratio) is associated with a high polymer-filler interfacial area per unit volume. The ideal case of fully separated (exfoliated) platelets is generally difficult to achieve in practice: a typical nanocomposite also contains multilayer stacks of ...

Nanostructured 316L Stainless Steel Stent Surfaces Improve Corrosion Resistance, and Enhance Endothelization and Hemocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study investigates the impact of nanostructured surface modification on corrosion resistance, HUVEC functions, and platelet interactions of 316L SS for cardiovascular stents. Nanostructured surfaces enhanced HUVEC proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis‐related gene expression while reducing platelet adhesion and hemolysis.

Inherited Platelet Disorders

open access: yesHematology, 2005
Abstract The inherited platelet disorders are a heterogeneous collection of rare diseases that are infrequently encountered in clinical practice. They are, however, fascinating abnormalities, which have taught us a great deal about normal platelet biochemistry and physiology.

Progress and Application of Multifunctional Hydrogel in Radioactive Skin Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review examines healing challenges in radiation‐wound injuries, where ionizing radiation impairs immune and tissue repair processes. Hydrogels, with their biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties, and drug delivery capabilities, present a transformative solution. It compares hydrogel efficacy in radiation‐induced versus common wounds, highlights

Novel Mutation in ITGB3: A Case Report of Glanzmann Thrombasthenia-like Syndrome Associated with Macrothrombocytopenia

open access: yesJournal of Applied Hematology
Congenital thrombocytopenias are a diverse range of diseases. Of them, Glanzmann thrombasthenia is an autosomal recessive platelet aggregation disorder due to defect in the alpha IIb/beta3 integrins, coded by the ITGA2B and ITGB3 genes.

Growth Factor‐Loaded Mesoporous Silica Particles, Incorporated in Electrospun PCL Fibres, Provide Topographical and Chemical Cues for Tendon Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Electrospinning enables the hierarchical assembly of nanofiber‐based scaffolds for tissue engineering. However, encapsulated proteins often undergo structural changes. This study used mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) as protective carriers, mitigating protein denaturation and supporting controlled release.

Anomalous Platelet Transport & Fat-Tailed Distributions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The transport of platelets in blood is commonly assumed to obey an advection-diffusion equation. Here we propose a disruptive view, by showing that the random part of their velocity is governed by a fat-tailed probability distribution, usually referred to as a L\'evy flight.
