Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...

Platelets promote macrophage polarization toward pro-inflammatory phenotype and increase survival of septic mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We investigated the contribution of human platelets to macrophage effector properties in the presence of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), as well as the beneficial effects and time frame for platelet transfusion in septic animals.

A hospital based cross-sectional study on platelet parameters in adult patients with dengue, its serological subgroups, and controls

open access: yesPlatelets, 2022
Our objective was to analyze if there was a significant relationship between platelet parameters (PLT, MPV, PDW, P-LCR, PCT) among dengue, its serological subgroups and controls.

A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics approach to find potential serum prognostic biomarkers in glioblastoma patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics analysis of serum samples from GB patients and healthy controls showed that high levels of IL1R2 and low levels of CRTAC1 and HRG in serum are associated with poor survival outcomes for GB patients. These circulating proteins could serve as biomarkers for the prediction of outcome in patients with GB.

Modulation of interferon-[alpha] secretion by activated platelets in systemic lupus erythematosus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Type I interferons play a key role in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) pathogenesis as an "IFN signature" is found in the majority of patients with active SLE.

Modeling of Polymer Clay Nanocomposite for a Multiscale Approach

open access: yes, 2008
The mechanical property enhancement of polymer reinforced with nano-thin clay platelets (of high aspect ratio) is associated with a high polymer-filler interfacial area per unit volume.

Safety and efficacy of low-dose ticagrelor in Chinese patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

open access: yesPlatelets, 2022
It remains unclear whether low-dose ticagrelor offers better safety and similar efficacy for Asian patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). We aimed to compare the safety and effectiveness of low-dose ticagrelor vs standard-dose ticagrelor in ...

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Enhancement of platelet response to immune complexes and IgG aggregates by lipid A-rich bacterial lipopolysaccharides. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
The effect of the common lipid moiety of bacterial LPS on secretion from washed human platelets has been studied. The lipid A-rich LPS of S. minnesota R595 and a lipid A preparation both potentiated platelet serotonin secretion in response to IgG ...

A megakaryocyte with no platelets: Anti-platelet antibodies, apoptosis, and platelet production

open access: yesPlatelets, 2012
Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and drug-induced thrombocytopenia (DITP) are disorders caused primarily by the presence of anti-platelet auto-antibodies (Abs). Hematologists have traditionally seen thrombocytopenia as the result of increased destruction of Ab-coated platelets by the reticuloendothelial system.
