This article takes three steps to explore 'play' as an educational concept. In the first step, we analyse 'play' as a "playful attitude" with reference to the theories of Jacques Henriot and Erving Goffman. Here, we suggest that play can entail not simply the activity of playing, but also the player’s attitude and the surrounding social frame.
