‘Meta-societies’ and ‘play communities’. The function of play to Liberian youth football players

open access: yesCadernos de Estudos Africanos, 2013
This inquiry considers three distinct areas, firstly the Liberian definition of ‘youth’ and their post-conflict identity, secondly the tradition of community and the post conflict living arrangements, and thirdly the theme of this investigation, the use ...

The Play of Play

open access: yesSpeki. Nordic Philosophy and Education Review
This article takes three steps to explore 'play' as an educational concept. In the first step, we analyse 'play' as a "playful attitude" with reference to the theories of Jacques Henriot and Erving Goffman. Here, we suggest that play can entail not simply the activity of playing, but also the player’s attitude and the surrounding social frame.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Assessing Norton and Norton's model of play therapy through a study of a three-year-old's play therapy experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Plan BThere are a variety of play therapy models in research literature that predict stages children move through during play therapy. The purpose of this study is to assess one of these stage models.

Could a playful approach to teaching be a path to resonant connections? Experiences from teacher education in Denmark

open access: yesFrontiers in Education
Creative and playful approaches to teaching in teacher education emerge these years. Due to the increasing focus on performance, pace, visible goals, and efficiency in the educational systems within the Western societies, there seem to be a search for ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
