Sebagai pegangan yang dimaksud ikan jantan adalah ikan yang mempunyai organ penghasil sperma (testis), sedangkan betina adalah ikan yang mempunyai organ penghasil telur (ovarium), kedua organ tersebut dinamakan gonad.
