In patients with malignant ureteral obstruction undergoing percutaneous nephrostomy, sarcopenia defined by a low psoas muscle index was independently associated with poor overall survival on multivariate Cox regression analysis, suggesting that preoperative assessment of psoas muscle index may aid prognostic stratification in this population.

Pleuropericardial mesotheliomas: A report of two unusual cases
Mesothelioma is an aggressive malignant tumor of the mesothelium. The majority of mesotheliomas arise from the pleura. However, less commonly mesothelioma can arise in other locations such as peritoneal, pericardium, or tunica vaginalis testis. We report

Prognostic Significance of JMJD3 Expression in Pleural Mesotheliomas
Pleural mesothelioma is a disease associated with asbestos exposure and patients often have poor prognosis. Biomarkers that can stratify tumours more efficiently are much sought after to enable more personalized treatment options and predict prognosis ...

Development of a Disease Activity Index for the Assessment of VEXAS Syndrome (VEXAS‐DAI)
Objective Vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X‐linked, autoinflammatory, somatic syndrome (VEXAS) syndrome is characterized by a complex spectrum of inflammatory and hematologic manifestations. Clinical research to identify effective therapies is urgently needed but is hindered by the lack of validated outcome measures.

A Novel Pak1 Activator Ameliorates ER Stress for HFpEF Therapy
Chronic metabolic stress is a major contributor to HFpEF progression. Under prolonged metabolic stress, Pak1 activity becomes impaired, contributing to disrupted ER proteostasis, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction. Mechanistically, Pak1 overexpression activates the ERK1/2–MNK1–eIF4E signaling axis, promotes translational ...

Pseudomyxoma pleurii: unusual location of a rare disease
Pseudomyxoma peritonei with pleural extension is very rare. Dissemination in the pleural cavity can be trans diaphragmatic or hematogenous. Appendicular and ovarian mucinous tumors are the most often involved.

High glucose is linked to reduced succinate dehydrogenase activity in CD14+ monocytes, accompanied by succinate accumulation and extracellular release. Extracellular succinate exacerbates mitochondrial ROS production and mtDNA release in CD4+ T cells. Cytosolic mtDNA then activates Z‐DNA binding protein 1 (ZBP1) and engages ZBP1‐associated inflammatory

Endowing Flexibility of Alveolar Type II Cells to Recapitulate Development From Lung Bud to Alveoli
Adult human alveolar type 2 cells are chemically reprogrammed into expandable alveolar progenitor‐like cells that acquire bud tip‐like features during expansion and form organoids that mature into alveolar‐like structures. These organoids model influenza A virus infection and innate immune responses in vitro, while transplanted cells engraft ...
