Persistent pleural effusion secondary to sarcomatosis in a dog

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract A 6‐year‐old, neutered, male German shepherd dog presented to the Emergency and Critical Care Service at the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center with bilateral pleural effusion. Thoracic computed tomography, among other diagnostics, failed to identify the cause of the pleural effusion.

Soluble CD40 in plasma and malignant pleural effusion with non-small cell lung cancer: A potential marker of prognosis

open access: yesChronic Diseases and Translational Medicine, 2015
Objective: Soluble CD40 (sCD40) is a potential modulator for both antitumor responses and CD40-based immunotherapy; however the levels and significance of sCD40 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with malignant pleural effusion are unknown ...

May Biochemical Variables and Pleural Fluid Cell Count Be Used in the Benign- Malign Differentiation of Pleural Effusions Associated with Lung Cancer?

open access: yesBezmiâlem Science, 2019
Objective:Pleural effusion is frequently encountered in patients with lung cancer. Malignant-benign differentiation of the fluid is very important for treatment decision because malignant fluid is considered as the inoperability criterion.

Swirling pattern in patients with exudative pleural effusion

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Bronchology, 2017
Objective Thoracic ultrasound is the gold-standard method for studying pleural effusions. It is more sensitive than chest radiography or computed tomography. Aim The aim of the paper was to determine whether the echogenic swirling pattern identifiable on

The management of malignant pleural effusion [PDF]

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1973
Summary Several effective methods exist for the control of malignant pleural effusion: the most effective is iodized talc poudrage, but the relatively short survival times associated with malignant effusions from bronchogenic carcinomas make less elaborate methods more appropriate.

Respiratory improvement of aspiration pneumonia using high‐flow oxygen therapy in a cat

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract A 13‐year‐old neutered male cat was presented with acute paraparesis and severe thoracolumbar pain. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an extradural paraspinal mass compressing the spinal cord. Surgery was performed, but 20 h post‐operatively, the cat developed severe respiratory distress consistent with aspiration pneumonia.

Diagnostic Value of Sialic Acid in Pleural Effusion

open access: yesChinese Journal of Lung Cancer, 2010
The present study was conducted in 30 patients of malignant pleural effusion and 30 patients of non malignant pleural effusion. Pleural fluid and blood samples were taken at the time of admission, before starting any treatment.

Dynamic changes of serum cytokines and their prognostic values in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated by thermal ablation

open access: yesSurgical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Thermal ablation is effective for early‐stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It can induce a host immune response through dynamic changes in serum cytokines. It is unknown whether this host immune response correlates with tumour recurrence.

Implementation of extensive cytoreductive surgery protocol in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer: Real‐world data on surgical treatment distribution and survival of the whole patient cohort; a single center experience

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
The change in surgical approach toward maximal surgical cytoreduction in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer does not significantly seem to change the magnitude of patients receiving only chemotherapy or undergoing surgical treatment. While the shift in surgical paradigm may provide survival benefits for carefully selected surgically treated patients ...
