Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Plot size can influence yield benefits from fungicides on corn

open access: yes, 2017
Use of foliar fungicides on corn has increased over the last decade. Part of the reason for this increase is due to physiological benefits on plants from QoI (strobilurin) containing fungicides.

Plot size for evaluation of Arabica coffee yield

open access: yes, 2019
. In most cases, in genetic breeding of Arabica coffee, plot size is defined in an empirical manner. It is often based only on the experience of the breeders and the availability of resources, potentially leading to a reduction in precision.

Predictions bias induced by plot size in forest growth models

open access: yes, 2014
Many forest growth models use plot-level variables, such as stem density or basal area, as predictors. Even if these variables are area-based, so that their expectations do not change with plot size when expressed per unit of area, a change in plot size ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

INCREASING PRECISION OF FIELD EXPERIMENTS IN MAIZE USING UNIFORMITY TRIALS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Production, 2004
The present study aimed to find out optimum plot size. shape and the proper number of replications in maize experiments. Two uniformity trials were carried out at the Agricultural Research Station of Sids, Beni-Sowef Governorate during the successive ...

Efficiency of Optimum Plot Size using Information of Previous Experiments Conducted in Split Plot Design

open access: yes, 2017
The optimum plot size is required at the time of experiment lay out to obtain the accuracy and reliability of the experimental result. In absence of uniformity trail, an alternative procedure is described to get the idea of optimum plot size. The process

Optimal plot size in lettuce seed germination experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Lettuce in works under controlled conditions is widely used in experiments with a direct focus on the species itself, or as an indicator species used in allelopathy works.
