Case Report: Successful treatment of severe pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in a case series of primary nephrotic syndrome after receiving anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody therapy. [PDF]
Rituximab is emerging as a new steroid sparing agent in children with difficult-to-treat nephrotic syndrome due to its ability of depleting CD20-positive B cells.

Immunization with Pneumocystis carinii A121-85 antigen activates immune function against P. carinii. [PDF]
Background Pneumocystis pneumonia (PcP), which is caused by Pneumocystis carinii, is a life-threatening infection that affects immunocompromised individuals. Unfortunately, chemoprophylaxis and dapsone are only effective for half of the patients with PcP,

Extracellular vesicles from Pneumocystis carinii-infected rats impair fungal viability but are dispensable for macrophage functions. [PDF]
Pneumocystis spp. are host obligate fungal pathogens that can cause severe pneumonia in mammals and rely heavily on their host for essential nutrients. The lack of a sustainable in vitro culture system poses challenges in understanding their metabolism ...

Functional Characterization of Pneumocystis carinii Inositol Transporter 1. [PDF]
Fungi in the genus Pneumocystis live in the lungs of mammals, where they can cause a fatal pneumonia (PCP [Pneumocystis pneumonia]) in hosts with compromised immune systems.

Nested-polymerase chain reaction detection of Pneumocystis carinii f. sp. canis in a suspected immunocompromised Cavalier King Charles spaniel with multiple infections. [PDF]
A 7-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel female was referred due to a chronic cough refractory to antibiotic treatments. Laboratory findings showed leukocytosis, increased serum C-reactive protein, hypogammaglobulinemia, and decreased total serum ...

Pneumocystis carinii is an atypical fungus that causes pneumonia in immunocompromised individuals. P. carinii comprises a heterogeneous group of organisms that have been isolated from a wide range of mammalian host species. P. carinii infection is host species specific, the P. carinii organisms that infect humans have only been found in humans.

Evidence of airborne excretion of Pneumocystis carinii during infection in immunocompetent rats. Lung involvement and antibody response. [PDF]
To better understand the role of immunocompetent hosts in the diffusion of Pneumocystis in the environment, airborne shedding of Pneumocystis carinii in the surrounding air of experimentally infected Sprague Dawley rats was quantified by means of a real ...

Pneumocystis carinii karyotypes [PDF]
Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis techniques were used to examine the chromosomes of Pneumocystis carinii isolated from laboratory rats and two human subjects. P. carinii organisms isolated from each of four rat colonies and from two patients each produced a distinct band pattern, but in all cases the bands ranged in size from 300 to 700 kilobase pairs.
