Vitamin D‐Mediated Hypercalcemia in a Dog With Putative Cutaneous Pythiosis
ABSTRACT A 12‐month‐old dog was diagnosed with cutaneous pythiosis after presenting with a nonhealing metatarsal wound, an inguinal mass, and regional lymphadenopathy. Both cytology of the abnormal lymph nodes and histopathology of the inguinal mass showed granulomatous inflammation. ELISA serology was positive for Pythium insidiosum. The dog developed

Antimicrobial prescribing guidelines for horses in Australia
The growing problem of antimicrobial resistance also affects equine veterinarians with increasing frequency. Isolation of the Pneumocystis carinii dihydrofolate synthase gene and functional complementation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]
The Pneumocystis carinii gene encoding the enzyme dihydrofolate synthase (DHFS), which is involved in the essential biosynthesis of folates, was isolated from clones of the Pneumocystis genome project, and sequenced. The deduced P.

ABSTRACT Parasites are expected to hybridise in similar ways to free‐living organisms, although this may be modified by their reduced genome architecture. Recombinant strains and taxa of hybrid origin can be studied in nature where hosts come into secondary contact. Here we apply genome‐wide analysis to parasites from a contact previously characterised

Treatment of Severe Adenovirus Infection With HAdV‐B21 in a Young Obese Male With Normal Immunity
ABSTRACT Adenovirus infections are usually mild, but rare serotypes like “HAdV‐B21” can cause severe pneumonia even in healthy individuals. We report a 32‐year‐old immunocompetent obese male who developed life‐threatening HAdV‐B21 pneumonia (PaO2/FiO2 62 mmHg), requiring mechanical ventilation.

A case of idiosyncratic drug‐induced agranulocytosis because of sulbactam/ampicillin
We report a case of agranulocytosis caused by sulbactam/ampicillin. During antimicrobial therapy, close monitoring of total white blood cell counts is essential. Abstract Idiosyncratic drug‐induced agranulocytosis is a rare but life‐threatening condition that requires immediate medical intervention.
