Appearance of type B avian Pneumovirus in great Britain

Avian Pathology, 1997
A survey in Britain in 1994/95 has shown that in all cases where avian pneumovirus (APV), was detected in turkeys of over 4 weeks of age, the virus was of type B. Oesophageal swabs were collected twice-weekly for up to 14 weeks in seven longitudinal surveys.

Avian pneumovirus infection of laying hens: Experimental studies

Avian Pathology, 2000
Administration of a virulent strain of avian pneumovirus (APV) to specific pathogen free laying hens by the oculonasal route failed to induce a drop in egg production or any adverse effects on eggshell quality. However, intravenous (i.v.) inoculation of the same strain caused a substantial drop in egg production and a high incidence of soft and thin ...

Avian Pneumovirus and Its Survival in Poultry Litter

Avian Diseases, 2003
The survival of avian pneumovirus (APV) in turkey litter was studied at different temperature (room temperature, [approximately 22-25 C], 8 C, and -12 C) conditions. Built-up turkey litter from a turkey breeder farm known to be free of APV was obtained and was divided into two portions.

Pathogenic and Immunosuppressive Effects of Avian Pneumovirus in Turkeys

Avian Diseases, 2002
Avian pneumovirus (APV) causes a respiratory disease in turkeys. The virus has been associated with morbidity and mortality due to secondary infections. Our objective was to determine if APV caused immunosuppression in the T-cell or B-cell compartments and to study the pathogenesis of the disease in APV maternal antibody-lacking 2-wk-old commercial ...

Avian Pneumovirus Infections of Turkeys and Chickens

The Veterinary Journal, 2000
Avian pneumoviruses (APVs) cause major disease and welfare problems in many areas of the world. In turkeys the respiratory disease and the effect on egg laying performance are clearly defined. However, in chickens, the role of APV as a primary pathogen is less clear, although it is widely believed to be one of the factors involved in Swollen Head ...

Susceptibility of ducks to avian pneumovirus of turkey origin

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 2001
Abstract Objective—To determine the susceptibility of ducks to avian pneumovirus (APV) of turkey origin. Animals—30 Pekin ducks that were 2 weeks old. Procedure—Ducks were assigned to 3 groups (10 ducks/group). Ducks of groups 1 and 2 were inoculated (day 0) with 200 µl of cell-culture fluid containing APV of turkey origin

Efficacy of avian pneumovirus vaccines against an avian pneumovirus/ Escherichia coli 02:K1 dual infection in turkeys

Veterinary Record, 2002
The clinical, pathological and microbiological outcome of a challenge with avian pneumovirus (APv) and Escherichia coli 02:K1 was evaluated in turkeys vaccinated with an attenuated APV vaccine and with or without maternally derived antibodies.

Characterization of Italian avian pneumovirus strains

2006
Avian Pneumovirus (APV) infection in Italy is reported from its first appearance in 1987 to present day. The B type virus has been found in different geographical regions but more recently, A type virus has also been detected. To establish the identity and heterogeneity among the APV strains that circulated in Italy from 1987 to 2004, the nucleotide ...

AVIAN PNEUMOVIRUS IN ITALY

2004
APV infection in Italy is reported from its first appearance in 1987 to present day. Serological, virological and molecular testing have been applied during one-off and longitudinal studies of turkeys and chickens. The B type virus has been found in different geographical regions but more recently, A type virus has also been detected.
