Intrinsic galaxy alignment from angular dependent primordial non-Gaussianity

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we explore a detectable imprint of massive fields with integer spins $s \geq 2$, which may be predicted from string theory. It was shown that such a massive non-zero spin field can generate the squeezed primordial bispectrum which depends ...

Nutrition and growth: Assessing the impact of regional nutritional intake on childhood development and metacarpal parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Measuring skeletal development throughout juvenile growth can provide a greater understanding into the health, hormonal function and genetics of children. The metacarpals have been of interest for their potential to provide insights into healthy juvenile

Characteristics, Management, and Utilization of Muscles in Musculoskeletal Humanoids: Empirical Study on Kengoro and Musashi

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Musculoskeletal humanoids exhibit rich biomechanical properties that remain insufficiently unified in prior discussions. This article systematically categorizes muscle characteristics into five properties: redundancy, independency, anisotropy, variable moment arm, and nonlinear elasticity, and analyzes their combined effects on control.

Identification of PNG kinase substrates uncovers interactions with the translational repressor TRAL in the oocyte-to-embryo transition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Drosophila Pan Gu (PNG) kinase complex regulates hundreds of maternal mRNAs that become translationally repressed or activated as the oocyte transitions to an embryo.

Retinal Vessel Segmentation: A Comprehensive Review From Classical Methods to Deep Learning Advances (1982–2025)

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Four decades of retinal vessel segmentation research (1982–2025) are synthesized, spanning classical image processing, machine learning, and deep learning paradigms. A meta‐analysis of 428 studies establishes a unified taxonomy and highlights performance trends, generalization capabilities, and clinical relevance.

Unification of Dark Energy and Dark Matter

open access: yes, 2005
We propose a scenario in which dark energy and dark matter are described in a unified manner. The ultralight pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone (pNG) boson, A, naturally explains the observed magnitude of dark energy, while the bosonic supersymmetry partner of the ...

Scalable High‐Force Zipping Electrostatic Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An electrostatic actuator architecture is presented that combines high energy density with forces and strokes suited for wearable soft robotics. By folding patterned thin films into a scalable honeycomb of zipping units, performance becomes tunable through series–parallel design, achieving over 40 N and 28 J/kg.

Loss to follow-up among adults with drug-resistant TB in Papua New Guinea

open access: yesPublic Health Action
SETTING: Multidrug-resistant/rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB) is now endemic in the National Capital District (NCD), Papua New Guinea. Loss to follow-up (LTFU) is a challenge.

Chemical compositions and plasma parameters of planetary nebulae with Wolf-Rayet and wels type central stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Aims: Chemical compositions and other properties of planetary nebulae around central stars of spectral types [WC], [WO], and wels are compared with those of `normal' central stars, in order to clarify the evolutionary status of each type and their ...

Extent of Sinus Surgery Is Associated With Disease Control in Biologic Treated Type 2 Dominant CRS

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background A greater benefit of biologics is observed after surgery in Type 2 chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). However, the extent of surgery remains undefined in many studies. This study evaluated the extent of surgery on disease control in patients receiving biologics for refractory Type 2 dominant CRSwNP.
