Brightness illusion in the guppy (Poecilia reticulata).
Journal of Comparative Psychology, 2016A long-standing debate surrounds the issue of whether human and nonhuman species share similar perceptual mechanisms. One experimental strategy to compare visual perception of vertebrates consists in assessing how animals react in the presence of visual illusions.

Guppies, Poecilia reticulata, perceive a reversed Delboeuf illusion
Animal Cognition, 2019Animals are often required to estimate object sizes during several fitness-related activities, such as choosing mates, foraging, and competing for resources. Some species are susceptible to size illusions, i.e. the misperception of the size of an object based on the surrounding context, but other species are not.

Visual pigment polymorphism in the guppy poecilia reticulata
Vision Research, 1987Visual pigment polymorphism similar to that found in primates is described in the photoreceptors of wild-caught guppies (Poecilia reticulata). Microspectrophotometric examination of retinal cells revealed rod visual pigments with a lambda max close to 503 nm.

Sex-biased movement in the guppy ( Poecilia reticulata )
Oecologia, 2003The movement strategies of birds and mammals are often closely linked to their mating system, but few studies have examined the relationship between mating systems and movement in fishes. We examined the movement patterns of the guppy ( Poecilia reticulata) in the Arima river of Trinidad and predicted that sexual asymmetry in reproductive investment ...

The Cumulation of Methylmercury in Fish (Poecilia reticulata)
International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 1980Methylmercury labelled with mercury-203 was used for the investigation of the uptake and the release of methylmercury in fish. It has been found that methylmercury compounds adsorbed on fish food remain completely in fish and that they are released with the biological half-time of 110 +/- 20 days.

Toxicokinetics of aromatic amines in guppy, Poecilia reticulata
Science of The Total Environment, 1991In this study the elimination kinetics of several chlorinated anilines and a tetrachlorobenzene in guppy, Poecilia reticulata, have been determined. The elimination of all the chlorinated anilines in fish showed a bi-phasic pattern, whereas the elimination characteristics of the tetrachlorobenzene are in agreement with a one-compartment model ...

Biotransformation of monochloroanilines in guppy,Poecilia reticulata
Xenobiotica, 19941. Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) were exposed for 96 h to 4-chloroaniline (4CA), 3-chloroaniline (3CA) and 2-chloroaniline (2CA) in a static exposure system. 4-Chloroacetanilide (N4CA), 3-chloroacetanilide (N3CA), and 2-chloroacetanilide (N2CA) were identified in test water as the respective biotransformation products. 2.

Exploring the solitaire illusion in guppies (Poecilia reticulata).
Journal of Comparative Psychology, 2018The solitaire illusion is a numerosity illusion that occurs when the spatial arrangement of items influences quantity estimation. To date, this illusion has been reported in monkeys, although it seems to be weaker compared with its prevalence in humans, and no study has investigated whether nonprimate species perceive it.
