Modeling proppant transport and settling in a 3D propagating fracture

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A versatile multiphysics tool is presented for simulating the complex processes involved in hydraulic fracturing treatments. The model couples fracture opening and propagation, variable‐density slurry flow, and proppant particle transport within the multiphysics object‐oriented simulation environment framework, based on two‐phase mixture equations and ...

Modeling and monitoring injectivity evolution during cold CO2 injection with field evidence from aquistore carbon capture and storage operations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This work integrates 5 years of field data from the Aquistore CCS project with a non‐isothermal THM modeling framework to explain how cold CO2 injection alters injectivity over time. The study shows that sustained cooling near the wellbore reduces effective stresses, promotes tensile micro‑cracking, and leads to semi‑reversible permeability enhancement

Analysis of lining force transmission coefficient and surrounding rock displacement in lined rock caverns for underground gas storage

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study derives an explicit expression for the lining force transmission coefficient of underground gas storage lined rock caverns (LRCs) via the complex variable function method, considering the displacement release coefficient. Taking the 1‰ tensile strain of surrounding rock as the criterion to determine lining thickness, it systematically ...

Mitigating surcharge‐induced column‐head cracking in double‐deck shield tunnels using hyperelastic bearing joints

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A staged three‐dimensional nonlinear soil–structure interaction (SSI) model is established, in which the initial geostress state, tunnel excavation, lining installation, delayed activation of the internal frame, and subsequent surcharge loading are simulated sequentially.

Harnessing Thin‐Film Solid‐State Electrolytes: Enabling Breakthroughs in All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration highlighting the advantages of transitioning from traditional thick solid‐state electrolytes (SSEs) to thin‐film SSEs. Thinning the electrolyte enables higher ionic conductivity, reduced interfacial polarization, improved flexibility, compact electrode contact, and enhanced energy density, offering a promising pathway toward high‐
