Selective inhibition of T suppressor-cell function by a monosaccharide [PDF]
Interactions between regulatory T lymphocytes and other cells are assumed to occur at the level of the cell surface. T cells which suppress the generation of specifically effector cells have been described as having antigenic, idiotypic, allotypic and I ...

Abstract This study aims to optimise the dyeing process of cotton fabrics using Mexican cochineal (Dactylopius coccus Costa). The objective is to obtain purple hues through the design of experiments and by using multivariate analysis. Plackett–Burman experimental designs and the response surface method were used to systematically optimise the dyeing ...

Vitamin E requirements of adult domestic cats (Felis catus) fed diets containing high levels of fish oil : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Nutritional Sciences at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]
The vitamin E (α-tocopherol) requirement of adult cats fed diets containing high levels of fish oil was investigated. Thirty-two (16 male, 16 female) adult domestic cats (Felis catus) were randomly allocated to four groups according to sex and fed one of

Feeding a high‐fat diet (HFD) did not alter body composition or inflammatory outcomes but resulted in impaired regulatory T cell response and compromised adaptive immunity and antigen‐presenting function. Supplementing the diet with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) improved these HFD‐related immune changes in a sex‐specific manner.

Optimisation of the lymphocyte proliferation assay in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
The lymphocyte proliferation assay is a valuable method used for the evaluation of the fish immune system. However, there are many variations and optimal results are not always obtained.

Risks for human health related to the presence of plant lectins in food
Abstract The European Commission asked the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to assess the risk related to the presence of plant lectins in food. Based on the available evidence, the CONTAM Panel considered only phytohaemagglutinin (PHA), a legume lectin from beans (Phaseolus sp.), for the risk characterisation.

Poliovirus-mediated entry of pokeweed antiviral protein [PDF]
Infection of HeLa cells with poliovirus results in cell permeabilization to pokeweed antiviral protein. Cell permeabilization was dependent on the integrity of virus capsid proteins and directly proportional to the multiplicity of infection. This study demonstrates that virus adsorption is sufficient for the entry of pokeweed antiviral protein into ...
