SWMF simulation of field-aligned currents for a varying northward and duskward IMF with nonzero dipole tilt [PDF]
This study concentrates on the FACs distribution for the varying northward and duskward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) conditions when the dipole tilt is nonzero. A global MHD simulation (the Space Weather Modeling Framework, SWMF) has been used

Polar cap precursor of nightside auroral oval intensifications using polar cap arcs [PDF]
AbstractRecent radar and optical observations suggested that localized fast flows in the polar cap precede disturbances within the nightside auroral oval. However, how commonly this connection occurs has been difficult to examine due to limited coverage of radar flow measurements and diffuse and dim nature of airglow patches.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Observations of AGW/TID propagation across the polar cap: a case study [PDF]
In this paper, we present observational evidence for the trans-polar propagation of large-scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances (TIDs) from their nightside source region to the dayside.

This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Dayside and nightside contributions to cross-polar cap potential variations: the 20 March 2001 ICME case [PDF]
We investigate the association between temporal-spatial structure of polar cap convection and auroral electrojet intensifications during a 5-h-long interval of strong forcing of the magnetosphere by an ICME/Magnetic cloud on 20 March 2001. We use data

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Variations in the polar cap area during two substorm cycles [PDF]
This study employs observations from several sources to determine the location of the polar cap boundary, or open/closed field line boundary, at all local times, allowing the amount of open flux in the magnetosphere to be quantified.

A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

The present study confirms the validity of previously derived relations between the polar cap (PC) indices and the ASY‐H and the Dst and SYM‐H ring current indices when used in real‐time applications.
