Search for the 531-day-period wobble signal in the polar motion based on EEMD [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2015
In this study, we use a nonlinear and non-stationary time series analysis method, the ensemble empirical mode decomposition method (EEMD), to analyze the polar motion (PM) time series (EOP C04 series from 1962 to 2013) to find a 531-day-period wobble ...

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Improving the Accuracy of Polar Motion Prediction by Combining Least Squares and the iTransformer Model

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
Polar motion prediction is an important means to study the dynamics of Earth's rotation and detect the internal structure of the Earth. This paper proposes an LS + iTransformer method that combines the least squares (LS) method with the iTransformer deep

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Method to Improve the Equatorial Components of Effective Angular Momentum Forecasts Based on Real Environments

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
The findings from the Second Earth Orientation Parameters Prediction Comparison Campaign (2nd EOP PCC) suggest that integrating effective angular momentum (EAM) is vital for enhancing the accuracy of polar motion (PM) predictions. Building on Dill et al.

Roll motion characteristics of a polar research ship with ice accumulation in beam waves

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
Stability of polar vessels could be deteriorated due to ice accumulation, making it crucial to investigate the dynamic behavior of the vessel under harsh polar conditions. In this work, the effect of ice accumulation on the roll motion characteristics of

A polar prediction model for learning to represent visual transformations

open access: yes, 2023
All organisms make temporal predictions, and their evolutionary fitness level depends on the accuracy of these predictions. In the context of visual perception, the motions of both the observer and objects in the scene structure the dynamics of sensory ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.
