Topological polarisation states

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
Polarisation states are described by spin expectation values, known as Stokes parameters, the trajectories of which in a rotationally symmetric system form a sphere named after Poincaré. Here, we show that the trajectories of broken rotational symmetric systems can exhibit distinct topological structures in polarisation states.

HST optical polarimetry of the Vela pulsar & nebula

open access: yes, 2014
Polarisation measurements of pulsars offer an unique insight into the geometry of the emission regions in the neutron star magnetosphere. Therefore, they provide observational constraints on the different models proposed for the pulsar emission ...

W polarisation beyond helicity fractions in top quark decays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We calculate the density matrix for the decay of a polarised top quark into a polarised W boson and a massive b quark, for the most general Wtb vertex arising from dimension-six gauge-invariant effective operators.

Quantum field theory for coherent photons: isomorphism between Stokes parameters and spin expectation values

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
Stokes parameters (S) on the Poincaré sphere are very useful values to describe the polarisation state of photons. However, the fundamental principle on the nature of polarisation is not completely understood, yet, because we have no concrete consensus ...

Political polarisation compared: creating the comparative political polarisation index

open access: yesEuropean Political Science, 2022
Political polarisation is a pressing political issue, as it can worsen democracy and has been rising in many countries in the past two decades. However, the exact scope of the problem is unclear, because conflicting measurements and conceptualisations have created disagreement about which countries are polarised.

Static nuclear polarisation and polarised targets

open access: yesHyperfine Interactions, 1985
The possibilities and limitations of performing experiments with statically polarised targets are discussed. The employment of both neutron and proton beams of various energies is considered.

Justicia, medios de comunicación y polarización política. El caso Colombiano

open access: yesTrayectorias Humanas Trascontinentales, 2020

The corrosion resistance and microstructure of UBM system-deposited NbxSiyNz thin films

open access: yesIngeniería e Investigación, 2012
NbxSiyNz thin film nanostructure was grown using the unbalanced magnetron sputtering (UBM) technique with varying Si content. Corrosion resistance was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarisation technique in a 3% NaCl solution.

Fibre-optic polarisers and polarising couplers

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1988
The dispersion equation describing the planar waveguiding properties of a thin metal film sandwiched between two dielectrics was used to predict the conditions for polarisation selective coupling from an optical fibre to surface plasmon polaritons. The conditions predicted by the analysis and those found by experiment were in close agreement and the ...

Economic convergence and polarisation: towards a multi-dimensional approach

open access: yesHungarian Geographical Bulletin, 2015
The current increase of regional inequalities in Europe, and in particular in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) has led to the reconsideration and revival of the concepts of "polarisation" and "convergence" in academic fields like regional economics ...
