The polarizability of the deuteron [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics A, 1998
The scalar and tensor polarizabilities of the deuteron are calculated using the recently developed effective field theory that describes nucleon-nucleon interactions. Leading and next-to-leading order contributions in the perturbative expansion predict a scalar electric polarizability of 0.595 fm^3.

Polarizable Molecular Dynamics in a Polarizable Continuum Solvent [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Theory and Computation, 2015
We present, for the first time, scalable polarizable molecular dynamics (MD) simulations within a polarizable continuum solvent with molecular shape cavities and exact solution of the mutual polarization. The key ingredients are a very efficient algorithm for solving the equations associated with the polarizable continuum, in particular, the domain ...

Polarizable force fields [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Structural Biology, 2001
Standard force fields used in biomolecular computing describe electrostatic interactions in terms of fixed, usually atom-centered, charges. Real physical systems, however, polarize substantially when placed in a high-dielectric medium such as water--or even when a strongly charged system approaches a neutral body in the gas phase.

NUCLEON POLARIZABILITIES [PDF]

open access: yesChiral Dynamics, 2001
The subject of nucleon polarizabilities in real, virtual, and doubly virtual Compton scattering is discussed with respect to what is known and how such quantities can be extracted from data.

Polarizable Ions at Interfaces [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2009
A non-perturbative theory is presented which allows to calculate the solvation free energy of polarizable ions near a water-vapor and water-oil interfaces. The theory predicts that larger halogen anions are adsorbed at the interface, while the alkali metal cations are repelled from it.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

The polarizability of organometallic bonds [PDF]

open access: yesComputational and Theoretical Chemistry, 2015
The distributed atomic polarizabilities enable the investigation of the coordination of organic ligands to transition metals giving new insight of some organometallic complexes used in catalytic processes. This approach is useful to appreciate the enormous changes occurring upon complexation to a metal, which is mainly responsible for the augmented ...
