Iterative Synchronization for Dually-Polarized Independent Transmission Streams

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2017
In this paper, we investigate a wireless communication scenario, where polarization multiplexing is exploited to increase the spectral efficiency. Independent modems over each polarization are considered, with communication links affected by phase noise and cross-polarization interference (XPI). We devise a novel per-polarization soft decision-directed

Polarization independence of a one-dimensional grating in conical mounting

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2003
We demonstrate theoretically a polarization-independent guided-mode resonant filter with only a one dimensional grating. A rigorous method, the modal method by Fourier expansion, is used to compute the diffracted efficiencies of the grating. Wave-vector analysis fails to correctly design a polarization-independent structure.

Polarization-independent plasmonic absorption in stacked anisotropic 2D material nanostructures

, 2019
Here we study the possibility to achieve polarization-independent optical absorption in stacked anisotropic 2D material nanostructures (NSs). Focusing on black phosphorus, we demonstrate that by crossly stacking even-layered NSs, surface plasmons ...

Complementary transmissive ultra-thin meta-deflectors for broadband polarization-independent refractions in the microwave region

Photonics Research, 2019
Polarization manipulation is a significant issue for artificial modulation of the electromagnetic (EM) wave, but general mechanisms all suffer the restriction of inherent symmetric properties between opposite handedness.

Polarization‐independent planar amplifier array

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 1999
A method of amplifying a signal with any polarization using an active microstrip patch reflectarray is presented. A 12-element X-band polarization-independent reflection amplifier is then developed to demonstrate the operation of this type of array. Gain, axial ration, and radiation patterns for this array are presented.© 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Polarization-Independent, Multilayer Dielectrics at Oblique Incidence

Bell System Technical Journal, 1975
This paper gives solutions for multilayer dielectrics that yield polarization-independent operation at a given angle of incidence and at a given frequency. An exhaustive analysis is given for symmetric three-layer dielectrics surrounded by the same medium. Special solutions are also given for symmetric multilayer dielectrics with more than three layers

Polarization-independent diffractive waveplate optics

2018 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2018
Diffractive waveplates (DWs) generally diffract light in different directions for the two circular polarizations of light, and the diffraction efficiency of such devices generally falls when the angle through which light is diffracted becomes large.

Numerically investigating a wide-angle polarization-independent ultra-broadband solar selective absorber for high-efficiency solar thermal energy conversion

Solar Energy, 2019
In this paper, an efficient solar selective absorber based on a tungsten sphere array and a tungsten grating is proposed and demonstrated numerically. The proposed structure has a spectral range of 300–1777 nm, with an absorption higher than 95% and an ...

Polarization-independent all-optical switching

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1992
A polarization-independent all-optical switch has been demonstrated based on a nonlinear fiber Sagnac interferometer. The control signal is split and recombined with a time delay, producing two linearly polarized pulses that lie within the temporal switching window of the circuit.

Polarization-Independent Cross-Dipole Energy Harvesting Surface

IEEE transactions on microwave theory and techniques, 2019
We present an energy harvesting surface (EHS) designed for electromagnetic energy harvesting and wireless power transfer consisting of an array of cross-dipole metallic elements.
