A Lack of Resolved Near-Infrared Polarization Across the Face of M51 [PDF]
The galaxy M51 was observed using the Mimir instrument on the Perkins telescope to constrain the resolved H-band (1.6 $\mu$m) polarization across the galaxy.

ABS+ Polar Codes: Exploiting More Linear Transforms on Adjacent Bits [PDF]
ABS polar codes were recently proposed to speed up polarization by swapping certain pairs of adjacent bits after each layer of polar transform. In this paper, we observe that applying the Arikan transform $(U_i, U_{i+1}) \mapsto (U_{i}+U_{i+1}, U_{i+1})$ on certain pairs of adjacent bits after each polar transform layer leads to even faster ...

The polarization properties of a tilted polarizer
Polarizers are key components in optical science and technology. Thus, understanding the action of a polarizer beyond oversimplifying approximations is crucial. In this work, we study the interaction of a polarizing interface with an obliquely incident wave experimentally.

Multi-Angle Polarization Index System for Pollen Type Bioaerosol Recognition
In this work, we propose a high-throughput online identification method of bioaerosols based on multi-angle polarization index system (MAPIS). In the study, four categories and 10 subclasses of aerosol samples from biological and non-biological sources ...

HST observations of the limb polarization of Titan [PDF]
Titan is an excellent test case for detailed studies of the scattering polarization from thick hazy atmospheres. We present the first limb polarization measurements of Titan, which are compared as a test to our limb polarization models.

In-situ Detection Method for Microplastics in Water by Polarized Light Scattering
Microplastics (MPs) have become the widespread contaminants, which raises concerns on their ecological hazards. In-situ detection of MP in water bodies is essential for clear assessment of the ecological risks of MPs.

In this work, we study effects of different types of system-reservoir interactions on work costs and operating regimes of thermal machines by considering a quantum system consisting of two subsystems embedded in both independent and common reservoirs ...

Photonic crystal polarizers and polarizing beam splitters [PDF]
We have experimentally demonstrated polarizers and polarizing beam splitters based on microwave-scale two-dimensional photonic crystals. Using polarized microwaves within certain frequency bands, we have observed a squared-sinusoid (Malus) transmission law when using the photonic crystal as a polarizer.

Non-Markovian dynamics control of spin-1/2 system interacting with magnets
The unavoidable interaction of an open quantum system with its surrounding environment may follow non-Markovian dynamics behavior, which causes its memory effects to play a key role in many quantum technologies.
