Efficient polarization converter for projection displays

Applied Optics, 1997
In the waveguiding limit, a twisted nematic liquid crystal cell behaves as an achromatic polarization rotator. We propose and demonstrate the application of such a polarization rotator to convert unpolarized light into linearly polarized light with almost 100% efficiency.

Optical element converting linear polarization into circular-tangential polarization

Applied Optics, 1995
A new optical element capable of converting linear polarization into circular-tangential polarization (i.e., the electric vector is along the tangential direction to a circle) is proposed and demonstrated. The conversion characteristics of the fabricated element are evaluated, and the magnitude of aberration produced by the element is shown to be ...

Reflection gratings as polarization converters

Optics Communications, 1997
Abstract An experimental and theoretical modelling study of corrugated gold surfaces, where the refractive index of the upper medium is varied to change the effective wavelength of the incident radiation, is presented. For certain corrugation amplitudes we show that it is possible to convert nearly 100% of plane polarized light incident normal to the

Broadband wide-angle polarization converter

2008 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2008
A novel polarization converter using reflective metallic gratings and broadband polarization beam splitter is developed. This device converts an unpolarized light to linear polarization with over 85% efficiency.

Graphene-based terahertz polarization converters

2017 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation & USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting, 2017
In this work, broadband and ultrathin graphene-based polarization converters operating at terahertz (THz) frequencies are designed and presented. The cross-polarization converter is constituted by a periodic L-shaped patterned graphene monolayer placed on a dielectric spacer layer and terminated by a gold substrate.

Quasi-optical 225GHz polarization converter

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
Recently, system designers have looked toward the higher frequency, shorter wavelength (to THz), consequently the device requires smaller and more precision. And this paper describes a polarization converter works in the radar system set-up at 225 GHz. Its working principle is similar to the optical diffraction.

Polarization-controllable TE21 mode converter

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2005
We report the concept and development of a Ka-band mode and polarization converter that efficiently converts a TE10 rectangular waveguide mode into either a linearly or a circularly polarized TE21 cylindrical waveguide mode. The converter is composed of a power-dividing section, a mode-converting section, and a polarization-transitioning section.

Broadband Linear to Circular Reflection Polarization Converter

2019 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, 2019
A broadband linear to circular polarization converting surface is presented. The polarization reflector consists of a dogbone-shaped FSS separated from the metallic ground plane by a Teflon dielectric slab of thickness equal to 3.95 mm. The polarization converter is composed by a periodic arrangement of metallic particles, positioned in a square ...

A wave polarization converter for circular polarization

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1963
A linearly polarized wave may be converted to a circularly polarized wave by means of a panel which provides 90\deg difference in transmission phase between two crossed linear components. This phase difference is obtained over a wide frequency band by means of thin sheets containing both inductive and capacitive shunt susceptance.

Fluorescence polarization assay for endothelin-converting enzymes

Peptides, 1995
The conversion of big endothelin to endothelin by alpha-chymotrypsin was determined by following its single Trp fluorescence polarization. This provides a novel, simple, fast, and sensitive identifying assay in the search for a native endothelin-converting enzyme.
