Polarization in Maxwell optics

Optik, 2017
Abstract A unified formalism of light beam optics and light polarization is presented. The starting point of our formalism is an exact eight-dimensional matrix-representation of Maxwell's equations in an inhomogeneous medium, which is presented in detail.

Acousto-optic polarizer

Ultrasonics, 2002
In the paper theoretical bases are presented, as well as their experimental verification, concerning an idea of a new type acousto-optic light ellipticity modulator, based on light diffraction phenomenon by ultrasonic waves, within the so-called intermediate diffraction regime.

Optical polarization imaging

Applied Optics, 1997
The temporal profiles of the parallel and perpendicular polarization components of a light pulse backscattered from a scattering medium are different. The depth of penetration into the tissue and depolarization of the backscattered light depend on the scattering and absorption characteristics of the tissue.

Optical characterization of a polarization imager

2011 IEEE International Symposium of Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2011
Polarization is a fundamental property of light for which humans have no innate detector. Numerous sensors have been devised to capture this property of light. Of these types of sensors, division of focal plane polarimeters allow for both high resolution and real-time capture of the angle and degree of polarization.

Polarization and optical logic

Applied Optics, 1986
The design of an optical logic parallel processor is described. The central component is a Fabry-Perot cavity, filled with a nonlinear layer and a linear anisotropic layer, such as a sheet of mica. The two logic states are represented by two orthogonal states of the polarization of the light beam.

Integrated optical polarizer

Optics Communications, 1976
In the following a polarizer will be described whose dielectric multilayer is not incorporated as a discontinuity in the planar waveguide as in /1/ but is deposited as a superstrate. A polarizer in the form of a dielectric multilayer and a glass plate (refractive index nG) is deposited as a superstrate on a planar waveguide (refractive index nF, film ...
