Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Effects Of Pamidronate On Dental Enamel Formation Assessed By Light Microscopy, Energy-dispersive X-ray Analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy, And Microhardness Testing

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of the present work was to investigate birefringence and morphology of the secretory-stage enamel organic extracellular matrix (EOECM), and structural and mechanical properties of mature enamel of upper incisors from adult rats that had been ...

Probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917-derived outer membrane vesicles enhance immunomodulation and antimicrobial activity in RAW264.7 macrophages

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2020
Background Probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) has been widely studied for the treatment of intestinal inflammatory diseases and infectious diarrhea, but the mechanisms by which they communicate with the host are not well-known.

Polarimetric imaging microscopy for advanced inspection of vegetal tissues

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Optical microscopy techniques for plant inspection benefit from the fact that at least one of the multiple properties of light (intensity, phase, wavelength, polarization) may be modified by vegetal tissues.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Chiral Photoresponsive Liquid Crystalline Materials Derived from Cyanoazobenzene Central Core: Effect of UV Light Illumination on Mesomorphic Behavior

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
One of the most frequently utilized liquid crystalline (LC) materials is a rod-like (calamitic) compound 4-cyano-4′-pentylbiphenyl (5-CB). The main objective of this work is to enhance its functionality by introducing a photoresponsive diazenyl spacer in

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Electron and light microscopy studies on the domain structures of Zn 3B7O13Cl, Zn3B7O 13Br and Zn3B7O13I ferroic boracites

open access: yes, 2002
The domain structures of Zn3B7O13Cl, Zn3B7O13Br and Zn3B 7O13I boracite single crystals were studied by means of polarized light in conjunction with electron microscopy. Single crystals of the three compositions were grown by chemical transport reactions
