Illustration of Texture with Ultrasonic Pole Figures

1987
Materials are most often used in the form of polycrystalline aggregates. Preferential orientation of the grains or crystallites within such an aggregate is known as “texture”, and almost all methods of fabrication will tend to develop a texture to some degree. To differentiate among textures, it is desirable to describe and quantify them. One technique

Automatic Pole Figure Recorder

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1954
A device has been developed for the direct recording in stereographic projections of pole figure data as they are supplied from a Geiger counter x-ray diffraction apparatus. The specimen is rotated systematically in a suitable goniometer about two axes in synchronism with movements of the chart and printer on the recorder. When the diffracted intensity

Automatic Pole Figure Plotter

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1965
A simple recording apparatus has been developed which automatically plots preferred orientation information obtained by x-ray diffraction in pole figure from. It is used with spiral scanning, counter tube, preferred orientation x-ray goniometers. The apparatus consists of an X-Y recorder, a spiral time base signal generator, and an encoder which ...

Recording and Analysis of Pole Figures by Computer

Journal of Applied Physics, 1968
A computer program has been written to produce pole figures using the data from an x-ray texture goniometer. The data are corrected for background and absorption. The pole figure is also stored on magnetic or paper tape in a form suitable for quantitative calculations.

X-ray pole figures for oriented PVC

Polymer, 1999
Abstract X-ray pole figures were obtained for samples of lightly plasticised poly(vinyl chloride) which had been subjected to monoaxial (draw ratio 2) and biaxial (draw ratio 2×2) orientation at 70°C. These pole figures confirmed the presence of crystallite orientation and suggested the presence of two distributions of crystallites, having the a ...

Reducing the Effects of Nonuniform Pole Distribution in Inverse Pole Figure Studies

Journal of Applied Physics, 1959
When x-ray-diffraction preferred orientation data are applied to the prediction of some physical property in a particular fabrication direction, a direct inverse pole figure determination is desirable. Two tests have been applied to the method. The first concerns the use of x-ray-diffraction preferred orientation data for the prediction of an aggregate

Improvement of Accuracy in Representation of Conventional Pole Figures

Advances in X-ray Analysis, 1966
AbstractIn the conventional pole figure, an accurate representation can be attained by correcting the observed X-ray diffraction intensity for any change in diffraction geometry and by comparing this with the correctly established standard intensity. For the intensity corrections, ASTM has prescribed the method of Decker et al.

Study of Error Distribution in Measured Pole Figures

Solid State Phenomena, 2005
Method to process neutron time of flight spectra for extracting texture information is suggested. Local peak fit is used to gain integral peak intensities as well as errors of fitted peak parameters. The usage of the method illustrated on spectra collected for Mg sample measured at Dubna on IBR-2 pulsed reactor at SKAT texture diffractometer ...

Averaging Techniques and Ultrasonic Pole Figures

1988
There is considerable interest in the evaluation of texture via ultrasonic measurements because of the advantages when compared to evaluation by diffraction techniques. First, ultrasonic measurements are much more rapid and have the potential of being used concurrently while processing.

A computer program for the construction of pole figures

Journal of Applied Crystallography, 1971
A computer program, written in Fortran IV, is described which analyses data collected from. a Schulz texture goniometer. Graphical output is in the form of pole figures, drawn on a digital plotter. A resolving power of the order of one degree is obtainable, enabling accurate studies to be undertaken on the preferred orientation in polymers.
