Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Gitksan totem pole, Kitwancool, British Columbia, 1910

open access: yes, 1910
View of totem pole set in back of large building; pole has large circle rimmed with figures cut out of bottom of pole. View of same pole in NA3472 Totem pole at Kitwancool belonging to Haidzemerks of the Wolf clan, called Hole-in-the-sky More ...

Higgs Inflation at the Pole

open access: yes, 2023
We propose a novel possibility for Higgs inflation where the perturbative unitarity below the Planck scale is ensured by construction and the successful predictions for inflation are accommodated.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Pole figures for randomly oriented sheets of silicon and aluminium

open access: yes, 1961
The intensities of emergent x-rays, after varying absorption by the metallic sheet itself, at different angles of the azimuth, over an entire Debye cone, when diffracted by polycyrstalline randomly-oriented sheets of silicon steel and aluminium, have ...

Approximation of pole figures for the determination of crystal orientation in polymeric solids

open access: yes, 1990
The approximation of experimentally measured angular intensity distributions of X-rays diffracted by oriented polycrystalline specimens is suggested as a method for the determination of orientation distribution characteristics for uniaxially oriented ...

Bilateral elastofibroma dorsi: typical CT and MRI features

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2014
An asymptomatic 57-year-old patient with a history of COPD was referred for a routine CT-scan of the chest. In addition to the changes caused by COPD, a bilateral soft-tissue lesion was observed deep to the inferior pole of both scapulas, just over the ...

Slip Localization Intensification Mediated by Grain Boundary Sliding in a Polycrystalline Nickel‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The temperature dependence of fatigue behavior in nickel‐based superalloys is investigated through high‐resolution measurements of plastic localization. While increasing temperature reduces localization and enhances fatigue performance in René 88DT, Inconel 718 exhibits a sharp degradation at intermediate temperature due to intensified slip ...

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation
