Polarity dependence of hexagonal inclusions and cubic twins in GaN/GaAs(001) epilayers measured by conventional X-ray pole figure and grazing incident diffraction pole figure

open access: yes, 2001
The distribution of mixed phases and its dependence on the polarity of cubic GaN epilayers are investigated by conventional X-ray pole figure and grazing incident diffraction (GID) pole figure.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Moment Pole Figures in Residual Stress Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesTexture, Stress, and Microstructure, 1996
The basic formulas (Reuss′s approximation) for residual stress analysis are given in a revised form. All ODF‐burdened information reduces to five “moment pole figures” simply to, calculate using modern direct algorithms. The corresponding harmonic expressions are also more compact than other formulas known from literature.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

The mechanisms of the fcc-bcc martensitic transformation revealed by pole figures

open access: yes
Face-centered cubic (fcc) to body-centered cubic (bcc) martensitic transformations occur in many materials, such as steels, FeNi meteorites or brass. The phenomenological theory has been the accepted theory for these transformations for more than half a ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Effect of service temperature on cyclic mechanical behavior of magnesium with fine grained structure

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
To explore the effect of operational service temperatures on the fatigue properties of fine-grained magnesium, we processed magnesium using multi-pass rolling at about 200oC and then tested the samples under a cyclic tension-tension loading at various ...

Papillary renal adenoma in a toco toucan (Ramphastos toco)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Veterinary Pathology, 2018
Primary renal neoplasms are infrequent in domestic animals and birds, being budgerigars an exception. This report describes a papillary renal adenoma in a toco toucan (Ramphastos toco), which was euthanized due to poor prognosis after surgical ...
