A Virus‐Inducible E3–RLCK–MADS Module Coordinates Suppression of Plant Immunity and Fertility in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Viruses often hijack host developmental programs to promote infection, but the mechanistic links between reproductive regulation and antiviral immunity remain incompletely understood. Here, we identify a virus‐triggered hierarchical degradation cascade that links antiviral immunity and fertility regulation in rice. We show that the rice grassy

Effects of therapeutants and temperature on pollen germination, pollen tube growth and fruit set in fruit crops : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Horticultural Science at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
This study involved assessments of therapeutant effects on pollination and fruit set; of temperature effects on pollen germination and pollen tube growth in apples, peaches and kiwifruits; of flowerage effects on pollen germination and pollen tube growth

Arabidopsis class I formins control membrane-originated actin polymerization at pollen tube tips

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2018
A population of dynamic apical actin filaments is required for rapid polarized pollen tube growth. However, the cellular mechanisms driving their assembly remain incompletely understood.

SERRATE Regulates Floral Meristem Activity by Antagonizing SHOOT MERISTEMLESS and Repressing Cytokinin Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Floral meristem (FM) activity is crucial for the initiation of floral organs. In this study, SE represses IPT7 expression and cytokinin signaling via both the miR171c‐5p–KNAT2 and miR164c–CUC1/2–KNAT2 regulatory modules, thereby repressing FM activity. In contrast, STM induces both KNAT2 and IPT7 expression.

The effect of intracellular calcium level regulators on the synthesis of pollen tube callose in Oenothera biennis L.

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
It is shown that callose synthesis in the Oenothera biennis pollen tube is regulated by the endogenous Ca2+ level. Calcium antagonists reduced the amount of callose in the wall above the tip of the pollen tube (Verapamil - calcium channels blocker) and ...

OsSNDP3 Functions for the Polar Tip Growth in Rice Pollen Together with OsSNDP2, a Paralog of OsSNDP3

open access: yesRice, 2022
Understanding pollen tube growth is critical for crop yield maintenance. The pollen tube provides a path for sperm cells for fertilization with egg cells.

The Long Journey of Pollen Tube in the Pistil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2018
In non-cleistogamous plants, the male gametophyte, the pollen grain is immotile and exploits various agents, such as pollinators, wind, and even water, to arrive to a receptive stigma. The complex process of pollination involves a tubular structure, i.e.,

Evaluating the African arid corridor hypothesis: A meta‐analysis including the phylogenetic and biogeographical history of Sesamothamnus

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise We examined the African arid corridor (AAC) disjunction pattern of vascular plants between northeastern and southwestern Africa in the context of geological and climatic events since the late Miocene. We developed a phylogenetic and biogeographical framework for the arid‐adapted genus Sesamothamnus (Pedaliaceae), a classic example of ...

What Brown saw and you can too [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A discussion is given of Robert Brown's original observations of particles ejected by pollen of the plant \textit{Clarkia pulchella} undergoing what is now called Brownian motion.

Exocytosis-coordinated mechanisms for tip growth underlie pollen tube growth guidance

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Many tip-growing cells are capable of responding to guidance cues, during which cells precisely steer their growth toward the source of guidance signals.
