We describe Stachytarpheta forzzae, a new species from an inselberg located in the municipality of Guaratinga, state of Bahia, within the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Morphologically, it resembles S. sprucei, the only other species of the genus known to inhabit inselbergs.

ABSTRACT Drought has emerged as one of the most severe and widespread environmental stresses affecting plants. Crops exposed to varying levels of drought, ranging from moderate to severe, often experience notable declines in yield or reduced harvest quality.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The rate at which flowers dispense pollen across successive pollinator visits is a key functional trait influencing male reproductive success. Pollen presentation theory (PPT) predicts that when pollinators are abundant and actively groom their bodies to collect pollen,

Multiple signalling increases both prey response and diversity in a carnivorous pitcher plant
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Organisms across the tree of life use multiple signals such as colour, movement sound, and many types of chemical signals to convey seemingly the same information. These signals are potentially costly, yet the repeated evolution of multiple signalling across systems ...

Actin microfilaments (MFs) are essential for the growth of the pollen tube. Although it is well known that MFs, together with myosin, deliver the vesicles required for cell elongation, it is becoming evident that the polymerization of new actin MFs, in a process that is independent of actomyosin-dependent vesicle translocation, is also necessary for ...

POLLEN GERMINATION AND TUBE GROWTH
Annual Review of Plant Physiology and Plant Molecular Biology, 1997▪ Abstract Many aspects of Angiosperm pollen germination and tube growth are discussed including mechanisms of dehydration and rehydration, in vitro germination, pollen coat compounds, the dynamic involvement of cytoskeletal elements (actin, microtubules), calcium ion fluxes, extracellular matrix elements (stylar arabinogalactan proteins), and control

Cell mechanics of pollen tube growth
Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 2018The pollen tube features particular traits that can only be understood when integrating cell biological with cell mechanical concepts. Firstly, regular temporal variations in the growth rate are governed by a feedback mechanism thought to involve mechanosensitive ion channels. Secondly, the tube uses invasive growth to penetrate the flower tissues with

Pollen Germination and Pollen Tube Growth
2001Pollen, the male gametophyte of higher plants, is a biological system playing a central role in sexual plant reproduction (Cresti et al., 1992). The understanding of the mechanisms controlling the various aspects of pollen tube development has a direct relevance to biotechnological applications since it represents a starting point to modify crop ...

Pollen mitosis and pollen tube growth inhibition by SO2 in cultured pollen tubes of Tradescantia
Environmental Research, 1976Abstract Mature pollen of Tradescantia paludosa Anders. Sax clone-3 was collected from greenhouse grown plants and desiccated in the dark for 4–5 hours. The pollen was sown on microslides coated with lactose agar medium (supplemented with 0.02% colchicine).

Pollen tube growth in macadamia
Scientia Horticulturae, 1983Abstract Pollen tube growth in macadamia was studied by fluorescence microscopy. The cultivars ‘Kakea’, ‘Keauhou’, ‘Hinde’ and ‘Renown’ showed some self-incompatibility, with pollen tube growth arrested in the style. Inhibited tubes had swollen tips and appeared to discharge their contents through a sub-terminal pore.
