Remarkable Anti-Fouling Performance of TiO2-Modified TFC Membranes with Mussel-Inspired Polydopamine Binding

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
It has been proven that a versatile bio-glue, polydopamine, can firmly bind TiO2 (titanium dioxide) nanoparticles on thin film composite (TFC) membranes.

Design dopamine-modified polypropylene fibers towards removal of heavy metal ions from water

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
A simple approach to preparing dopamine-modified polypropylene fibers with a controllable polydopamine amount is supplied. By the dopamine modification, the hydrophobic polypropylene fibers have been changed into hydrophilic.

Nanostructured polymeric coatings based on chitosan and dopamine-modified hyaluronic acid for biomedical applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In a marine environment, specific proteins are secreted by mussels and used as a bioglue to stick to a surface. These mussel proteins present an unusual amino acid 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (known as DOPA).

Polydopamine-Supported Lipid Bilayers

open access: yesMaterials, 2012
We report the formation of lipid membranes supported by a soft polymeric cushion of polydopamine. First, 20 nm thick polydopamine films were formed on mica substrates. Atomic force microscopy imaging indicated that these films were also soft with a surface roughness of 2 nm under hydrated conditions.
